segway?

You mean the electric transportation device that was going to take over the world and save the environment...sound familiar?

The last few years when we were in Washington DC they were all over the place
being used by tour groups around the National Mall area.
Plenty of little electric scooters wandering around also.

I just had a door to door pest services salesman pull up in my driveway in one of them, he had the latest and greatest version as there are different models now. They were designed and developed right here in New Hampshire so we have our fair share of them, at the mall, in the downtown areas, the Post Office uses them for door to door mail service, etc.

Actually, mail delivery is one place where they would be of great help. But the USPS would rather destroy the backs and knees of its employees that purchase anything to mitigate the injuries.

I was getting fuel at a Quick Trip,,,looked next to me and the USPS truck was running studded snow tires. I thought Missouri had a remove by April or May rule. I bet they run year round. And they don’t get stuck in August!

Yeah, me 2. Not a big deal anymore since so few vehicles run studded tires. Back in the mid-80's, we changed out the studs on the leased city route vehicle fall and spring.

I went on a city tour on a Segway years ago in San Francisco, when it was still possible to travel around that city without becoming mired in human waste and hordes of zombie homeless, mentally ill and/or drug addicted parasites. The Segway was fun for the hour and a half, but standing in one spot actually was pretty tiring. Other than tours in big cities I never see them anymore. The local community college had one and I would see one of the police officers riding it around on the 2 mile bike path, but hat was a few years ago. Thought I wanted one at one time, but glad I didn't get one since they are pretty much banned on sidewalks or streets in most places.

Segway literally defines "piece of garbage".
A "product" popularized by its advertising and promotion rather than utility.

One of my co-workers told me that she and her husband rented Segways at Gettysburg and toured the battlefield with them. They first had to take a short training course, during which she ran head first into a stop sign. LOL!

If we go there, I think we'll stick with the Nissan Xterra.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the electric car market after the government forces them every where. Used EV are going to be worthless. The battery replacement is cost wise insane. The hit on the enviourment will be huge....but unmentioned. Another tremendous "lets save the planet" idea . All we hear are the pros and not much on the cons.

Which has exactly what to do with Segways?

I believe it dovetails nicely, Segways were going to save the environment and were the future of personal transportation. I don’t know if they were directly subsidized by taxpayer money but they were purchased in mass by local, state, and federal agencies. Battery degradation became a huge issue and it wasn’t viable to replace them. The lithium ion batteries used in the Segways then started turning up in landfills as there wasn’t a simple recycling programs. As people realized there were very few real world use cases for a Segway they vanished. These are the problems directly facing the EV industry that are not being addressed in addition to the other problems that environmentalists either just don’t know exist or they don’t care.

The battery issue isn’t new. Remember the Think?

Exactly, battery disposal is just one of the problems ignored by those that think EVs will become very popular in the near future, right now they're just toys for the wealthy, subsidized by the middle class.
