I posted a little irritation on another gun forum, to the effect that it irritated me when someone asked a question and after a few responses, some wag says "that was answered on post number 4" or something like that. Meaning further responses were not welcome, in his opinion.

As typical, I got a reply to the effect "I've got more important things to worry about."

Seems to me if those who so reply would do something about the more important things they have to worry about we'd have far fewer things to worry about.

Sometimes I get carried away when I post and cant resist telling a old war story that something reminded me about something that doesn't have a lot to do about the original post. It has irritated a few that complained about it. To me it`s petty as I can "speed read" any post in a second or two and jump past it if it doesn't interest me.
I get the impression that if it bugs someone they must be a slow reading person and mad they put so much "wasted" effort in to reading something they weren't interested in.

Well sometimes people asking questions are looking for a little consensus. Just because one person answered doesn't necessarily mean it's correct.

Bob, I am with you, I will sometimes reply to a question with the bit of wisdom and experience I have. If the topic is really important, I will even go to the trouble of posting links to that topic where more detail and information is then easily available. I have never replied with the "do a search" answer.

Don't worry about it, Bob. Your experience and opinion is always of value. If someone really "had more important things to do, they shouldn't have the time to participate - to any extent - on internet forums.

FWIW....If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have had to ask. LOL
I was looking to purchase some grips for one of my GP100's a few years ago on this forum. The rubber frames with the wood inserts. The seller hadn't posted any pictures & I asked him to send me a picture. He replied you now what they look like. I didn't respond. My thoughts were, "yes, I know what they look like, but I don't know what your grips looks like." Some are darker, some are lighter colored. Some have heavy grain, some appear to be more of a solid look. The old saying, "Buyer Beware" is always true.

I've noticed this as well and in my opinion it's kind of all a part of the same problem. Something known as backseat moderating. The person doing it often seems to feel they are "helping" by directing or steering discussions. This has generally been frowned upon about as long as internet discussion boards have existed. I'm not sure about this forum, but many will actually specifically state it is against the rules although this usually does little to stop it.

In short you are dealing with someone who has given themselves a forum promotion over other posters in their own mind and they can be very annoying to deal with. Nowadays I just ignore them. Others see them for what they are as well.

Everything just goes smoother if one just lets the mods do their job without "helping". In an ideal world they'd take it to a PM to a mod but many like the grandstanding.
