I signed up with Mint Mobile for a cell phone. To get their best rate ($15/mo) you
have to pay a year in advance.

Digress slightly here: As you sign up, you pay for three months, then renew as you
prefer. Full year renewal and you continue with $15/mo.

I turned in my renewal about two weeks ago. Just got a notice telling me I was time
to renew. Called them and got one of those "off shore" helpless desks. Went down
hill from there. - - I'll try again in an hour or two.

For the first two and one half months, everything has been fine. GOOD voice
service, GOOD text service and since I do . . not . . use my cell phone as a
substitute home computer, the data service has not been a problem (read that
as good).

I guess I'm just getting old. I EXPECT reasonable customer service. As if that
were not enough, my bank has online access (really convenient) that they require
I enter a "temporary verification code" to sign on with them, at least once per month.
(and those turkeys want me to go "paperless" . . . right . . . sure . . . you bet)

I programmed computers for thirty years. I believe I have a working knowledge of
how to get them to provide service. WHY don't these clowns wake up?

I got a flip phone with just the basics, including text, picture, etc and it is less than $30/mo from Consumer Cellular and they have good service. There is a discount for AARP folks. In the near future I might have to upgrade to a smart phone because of necessity.

Mint runs on the T-Mobile network, and, as I said above, other than trying to talk
with a person, is quite good.

As it turns out, when I tried to "renew" my plan from my phone, it shows it to be on
auto renew. It was simply a matter of trying to "talk with a person" that created the
"problem". With auto renew, my bills are $15/mo, unlimited talk, text and data.
DISCLAIMER: Unlimited data is with a "cap" where, if you go over your limit, it
simply slows the data down. - - - As I said, since I do NOT use my cell phone as a
replacement for my home computer, I do not go over the "cap".

My MIL uses Tracfone, if you have an iPhone they use Verizon towers. The service is good and you can tailor it to your needs, I’ve had to use support, it’s offshore but pretty good. I have Comcast internet so I use xfinity mobile, the billing can be tailored to you needs(I pay $17 a month for two phones), support is not offshore and there are no contracts.

They use Verizon towers so connectivity is the same. I’m grandfathered at $12 per GB of data but it’s currently $15 per gig, $30 for 3GB, $60 for 10 GB shared with up to 5 phones. Unlimited is $45 per line and the fees are about $3.50 for each phone. You can change plans anytime and with the free WiFi I get it really works for me in the urban area I live in, I can walk for miles and stay on free xfinity WiFi.

It was simply a matter of trying to "talk with a person" that created the
"problem".

We’ve found going paperless is much much easier than trying to talk with customer service. I handle the utilities and my wife handles the banking.

So other than trying to decipher my phone bill, doing everything online has been much easier for us.

Going paperless, everything is spelled out in writing and I don’t have to trust someone’s word as the truth. We never have any late bills etc.

As far as banks, wow! Have you seen all the local branches closing up? They are forcing everyone to go to online banking.

I have Spectrum mobile ever since they went in the cell phone business. 14 dollars a month total. No taxes or extra fees. Before that I had Verizon for 57 dollars a month. Have not had any problems whatsoever. Works great. When I first signed up I bought the Samsung phone from them. Has a great camera, all the pictures I post on here have been taken with it.

Yeah, that I just don’t believe. AT&T has promised me the same thing several times, and yet the prices keep going up. When I call to ask why. They have no recollection of the previous promise of a price lock. Or they blame it on higher tax rates which they “just can’t avoid.”

Cell phone and Internet services with tv will just continue to go up and up till we all die.

DON'T DO IT JIMBO....... you really don't need to upgrade; it will result in more people bothering you and more money lost to "data" (whatever that is)...

I've been giving away that same $30/month for many years and STILL don't text or do anything but make an occasional call every month..!!!!

STAY THE COURSE MY BROVVA

I and my wife am grandfathered on the OLD gold pay as you go plan from T-Mobile where once you have purchased $100 worth of minutes all minutes purchased are good for (and extend your total) another year. I buy the minimum (10.00 to 25.00 each year for my wife's phone as she uses it that little. I generally buy about $50.00 worth of minutes each year. We just need to make sure we buy some before the year is up of the balance goes to $0.00 when they expire. Only lost minutes once and we learned our lesson.
