How many of y'all save scrap brass? I've found a scrap metals dealer close to me so I've been saving all of my scrap brass. this includes empty .22 L.R. cases and spent primers. Also any cases that are split and unfit to reload. And from time to time, throw in a plumbing part, if brass.

You'd be surprised at how fast spent primers add up, I think my last trip I had twn pounds of spent primers. I do keep them separate just in case there's any question about them.

Since I've been salvaging my .45 Colt brass to make my .45 Xtra Short, I'm not getting quite as much, but still manage to bring home $20~$30 from the scrap dealer.

Hi I use to save it up for about 6 months take it down to the scrap dealer end up with $40-$60 but they will not take it anymore even if I crush every case they claim a live round went off while they were processing

yessir, around here they say "clean brass",,, as unburnt powder does build up, and accumulate over time, saw a "spent brass" barrel at a gun club go up in flames one time, many years ago.............

I save brass. Plus, every time I go to the range I pick up a pound or so. Outdoor range and many people don’t reload apparently. I take a three gallon bucket every six months or so for $50-$60. Last time he offered me $1 a pound, I said no, because the time before it was $1.25. (I couldn’t remember exactly though) he then countered with $1.15 a pound. Kind of funny to bargain back and forth over recycled scrap.

I recycle brass, aluminum, steel, copper etc. A trip to the scrap yard,,, can yeild me anywhere from $40 to well over $100.

These days I plink in the woods with my little .22LR single shot rifle almost all of the time.

A friend comes up occasionally with his single shot .22LR also.

When I consider my reloaded 10MM Auto brass used up, I toss that in as well.

At this rate, I figure that when I'm about 90 1/2 years old, I'll have scrounged up enough scrap brass to purchase a 100 count box of CCI Standard Velocity. :D

I'm with Contender; I've been a scrounger since I was about 6 in 1949. Caught this obsession from my dad who nearly starved to death in Rapid City, SD during the Depression.

Always have a black plastic bag in my left back pocket and always put any loose metal in it. Even keys and .25 auto cases I find on the street. Ferrous metals go into the county recycle so the Chinese can make them into whatever; county gets paid by the ton for that. Al, Cu, Zn, brass, bronze all go to the scrap yard twice a year and get turned into ammo and Rugers.

One exception is any really weird cases I find at the ranges or when hunting or on hikes (like a .45-75 I found while blacktail hunting in NorCal last year) and anything that has value as an antique (like the copper "worms" I found in the woods when I was hunting birds in upstate NYS a few years ago. One of them ended up on the wall of an upscale bar in Boston!).

When everyone else has their eyes on their phone, I'm looking for loose junk. I prefer my obsession to theirs--also helps me see game tracks. And snakes.....
