Lets have some fun: Switchblade or Brass knuckles?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I used to think switch blades were very desirable until I actually started using one. I have had even expensive swtich blades that promptly broke their springs.

Assisted folders can and do break springs as well.

On the other hand I have had better luck with gravity knives like the Gerber Applegate that have no springs to break and can be deployed just as fast.

I use mine for opening letters. That is about all.

why take an inert object to a gunfight?
Me too. I could never understand that crap in Star Wars where they have those light sabers. Why have a weapon so advanced and still fight it out man to man like a couple of old pirates? I have never seen any episode of Star Wars completely through. I started with the first one and didn't even make it half way through.

I agree. Watched the movies DUNE and DUNE 2
With my 23 yr old grandson. He loved them both. I could barely get through them.

They had starship, energy weapons and nukes. But the armies are fighting each other on the ground with short swords. What the hell.

PS. I know it is Hollywood but jeesh ;)

The recent remakes are not something I can remain awake while watching.

The 1970s version with Kyle McLauchlin was much better, I think.

Of the two the knife. It's better for maintaining standoff distance or barring that finishing an opponent quickly with a well placed blade. I essentially EDC variations of both though. I always have a folder clipped to my pocket and I have used a carabineer on my pants to hold my keys or hammer etc since Jr High School. The keys also have a flail effect when swung at someone's face. Flashing metal coming at your eyes will make almost anyone wince even if they aren't particularly damaging.
At less than 20 feet it is as deadly as a Handgun .

25 years back, my friend had me pull a rubber knife on him. I begged him to go easy on me as I knew his skill. He said he would do it slowly and not bend my arm too much. I was nervous. The 8" blade was covered in rock climbers chalk to mark him if I hit. Long story short, I lunged and he closed the distance and had me on the ground begging for mercy before I could blink. The idea of a knife fight scares the heck out of me.

I have a set of brass knucks somewhere. I bought them as a "paperweight" at a gun show about 35 years ago. I guess I would take the switchblade if I had to pick one of the two,

Being olde, I have a 6' staff. Not only is it a good defensive weapon, I can part the waters at the Marina, like Moses. :) 🤣
I always have my Walters with me as well. Both about 4' long. One is a smooth sycamore (light and fast) the other is a gnarly hickory that I doubt I could break if I tried.

It also depends on whether the person with the knife is attacking or defending. If defending, how many attackers?
All of the scenarios where the person with the knife is attacking, even if the knife gets to the person with the gun, the knife wielder still gets shot. The defender with the gun gets stabbed unless trained for that type of encounter. For an attacker with a knife it is, at best, a Pyrrhic victory.
Bottom line, under any scenario I can think of, I want a gun. Some freinds with guns would be nice too.
