Maybe they'll give him 10 years which is pretty close to a life sentence for the guy.

then his defense might be that he just forgot who had paid him and what for......
Blume 357, well I agree with you on any jail time could be death sentence at his age, I feel no remorse for him. if you don't have the time, don't do the crime. it was his choice. as for his defense of forgetting is absolutely ridiculous statement for a few reasons. on its face, it take time and yes, skill to scam someone. you have to "Apply yourself" to pull this off. now if you read the charges, 5 minimum. this was not a single, simple mistake from an old dude. ya your honor. I don't remember robbing 5 banks, or writing 5 fake checks, receiving 5 checks for goods I never owned. any one with half a brain see this was done purposely, with intention of stealing. you might want to rethink your comments applying common sense, Im sure the Judge this case certainly will.

I really think, at least part of me does, that jail time is too good a punishment for these scammers.
I've spent the last 42 years going to people's homes and often telling them they need repairs to their chimney.
Years ago I realized, at least this is my excuse, that I am an awful salesman and so I don't even try to pressure people into making a decision... I usually won't even give them a price on what I consider a big repair while at their home, but will send them a proposal and they have to call me to schedule the work or if they have questions.. I won't even follow up on it.

the sad thing is the guy will probably be better off in prison ..... I wonder if we can look him up via the internet?

It's always heartening to see justice served. The disdain for thieves is universal.
No it's not universal. Here in California and the L A area in particular the city mayor and county DA figured out they coul get elected and defeat recalls by pandering to the criminals. Why? Because criminals vote. Criminal's relatives and friends vote. What I call the criminal voter block, when added to the liberal block make an unbeatable electorate.

Back the scammer and away from Politics in the Lounge ……

Wish I would have more dogged in my fraud case. I was working and didn’t have time or resources when the local pd said they couldn’t do more.
Glad yours came to a good ending (but not to the scammer)

When I had someone use my debit card info without permission the local police treated me like the criminal when I went to have a report made to take to the bank to get my money back. Then they did nothing to find the people. I actually got an address in New Jersey where some of the stuff was set to ship and the police still did nothing ... except the treat me like the criminal part.

Good thing you got help from law enforcement.

I wasn't treated like a criminal, I was just ignored. I had something similar happen and when I tried to contact the police in the jurisdiction where the product was being shipped, I just got the runaround on the voice menu. The "non-emergency" number had me press this number and that number and another number then had me on hold for half an hour. I just said, "Screw it." Discover had refunded my money so I wasn't out anything.

i mean really?...if I make it to 81 im certain i will have better things to enjoy other than being in jail...but each of us has their own idea of what a fun retirement looks like

Makes me wonder if there was a younger person involved. The 81 year old could be a patsy possibly even a willing patsy. I'm glad the case was solved just hope the right guy is being punished.

I hate thieves.

Good for you @mr.deerstalker few would have the tenacity to see this thing through.
