SC6 Single Six questions

I have what Ruger verified as a SC6 Single Six unconverted without the mag cylinder. My questions are did some of them come 22lr only and how hard are the boxes to find for them? Is there anything special about the SC6 I should look for? Thanks for the help!

SC stands for "Super Single-Six Convertable." So,, in general No,,there isn't a 22 LR only. I will not say "never" but I'd say highly unlikely. They did have 15 guns lableled as SC6M with 22 mag only,,,,!
As for boxes,, yes,, they are out there,, and not too uncommon. But since they are OM boxes,, good ones command a fair price. I've seen descent boxes sell for $35-$40 and up to $100.

In the Single Six line the SC's are adjustable sight models while RSS's are the fixed sight version.

I got lucky in Yuma a few weeks ago. Wondering around Friday during set up for the show I spotted an Old Model box on a table. Asked the fellow what was in the box and he said it was empty. Very nice RSSM box so I asked if he was interested in selling it and he said "No, but you can have it". Told him the boxes are actually worth some money and he said he would take a buck for it and buy a cup of coffee at mcdonalds. I gave him a 5 and told him to buy breakfast. I was happy and he thought I was crazy giving him 5 bucks for a Ruger cardboard box.

Timing, as they say, is everything.

I had to shell out a ton of cash for this no catalog number example... something like $20.

The "catalog numbered" example came with papers. I got it for about the same price.

Yup, those boxes are still out there..........

RENE currently shows SC5 and SC6 boxes at $65. This would be for a REALLY NICE ONE I'd assume.

There have been a few SC6 boxes on ebay in the last couple of months with a couple going for about $45.


Picked this SC6 up a couple of months ago. Gun has been converted but the original parts came with it.

All convertibles were shipped with the extra cylinder in a bag and a small box.

LR Only? Wow, rare gun. Have you carefully inspected the gun for any unusual markings, i.e. a letter "S"?
