Sirius XM... I've had it a long time and I really like the service. Originally it was $30 a month for one vehicle. I kept asking how I could trim the service and save some money. Nope they said, can't be done. So I attempted to cancel. Whoa they said. Wait a minute. How 'bout if we made it $20 a month? I said okay. But I still knew of some other folks paying far less. I signed up for a couple more years at twenty bucks, but contacted them again to cancel if they can't make it cheaper. Then all of a sudden they had a ten dollar per month special. I did for a few years, but noticed on a recent automatic 6-month renewal, the price had raised to 16-bucks per month. Okay, they can't just keep doing this with no notification, so I called to cancel. Again, they said how 'bout 6-bucks a month? I said not this time. Just cancel me. My expenses for utilities and other things have increased astronomically, and I must finally start cutting some expenses. End of story, and I am now cancelled.

A week later, they called and offered me a $4.99 a month deal. If they want to keep customers, they can't keep changing prices and offering specials on a whim. Wanna keep me, tell me the price up front. I stayed disconnected.

Years ago we traded in a vehicle equipped with Sirius/XM. When I had to repeatedly tell them to stop charging me for the service on that vehicle, they got me mad enough to quit them on all our other vehicles, too. As I recall, I ended up having to get the credit card company to reverse the charges.

I and y'all don't want to know what I pay for it.... actually I don't know but I bet it is more than $30 a month.... I listen to two channels... Old time radio and Margaretaville and that is it.....

My wife is great about calling for a better deal. We have two vehicles, both signed up for $12/month. If they raise it, she calls again.

When I bought my new truck in 2021,, it Sirus came with it free for 6 months. I was in the process of cancelling it and was offered an additional 6 months for $5.00 total. After that,, they wanted to charge me $5.00 per month. I cancelled. I still get all kinds of mailers offering it to me at low rates.
I have not renewed.
I would enjoy a service that streams NOTHING but music. Sirus pushes themselves in-between songs & such. I do not want any commercials, PERIOD.
I hear music being played in restaurants or other places w/o any commercials. I've asked about those services. They too cost more than I'm willing to pay. So,, I listen to a few radio stations,, that have very limited commercials. One station, twice an hour has about 2-3 minutes of commercials. I hit the mute button & don't have to listen to their crap.

I can live w/o Sirus.

I pay 6 bucks a month, and it's worth it to me. There aren't any bluegrass stations in my area, and I enjoy their other stations from time to time too. Plus, it's nice to be able to drive across the entire country listening to the music you like commercial free and without the need to scan local stations to find one you like.

Your experience mirrors mine almost exactly. Just recently dropped them because I was paying something like $49 a month and, since I've retired and moved, I'm not driving nearly as much as before. Just wasn't worth it for the price. When canceling they offered me $20 a month. Nope, still don't really need it. Since I canceled they have contacted me and offered me $10 a month. Still no. I'll bet I get the $4.99 offer the OP got within the next couple weeks. Since I have been without it I found I don't really miss it so I won't bite on that either. I originally got it to listen to the old-time radio shows like Dragnet and Gunsmoke but I can get those any time now for free online.

I call them about a week before mine is due to expire,
They offer $50 a month.
I tell them I’ve always paid $5 a month.
They offer a “special” of $25 a month.
I tell them to go ahead and disconnect me,
They “ask a manager” and agree to help me out with $5 a month.
It’s just a dance we perform annually,
——————————————————————-

My wife ( the smarter one ) lets them disconnect her.
A week later they call her offering to renew her at her current rate of $5 a month.

This same sort of haggling goes on with our lawn treatment. Price goes up every year, I call and threaten to go elsewhere, they come back with a much better offer. I understand things going up in cost due to the present regime but some of it is just ridiculous.

SiriusXM auto renews the contract at prevailing rates at the end of said contract. Its in the email confirmation I received on 8/11/2023 when I negotiated the $5.99 rate and it was in the email from 2022 when I renewed at $5.00.
No disconnection , they just charge the credit card on file at the new rate.
Last year my wife told me of the new higher rate ( $19 a month iirc) when it hit her credit card so I called and cancelled, got the lower rate and the $20 something already charged was used up in 3 months and new charges started appearing on the credit card.
Long way of asking how your wife gets disconnected with out calling ?

New cars come with Sirius XM. I don’t know why anyone would pay what they want. Yes I understand you have to call and get better rates.

But they are more expensive than any streaming services. We use Spotify.

The thing I can’t understand about Sirius is they charge per car, or home. Spotify is on my phone and goes from car to car to house, all one price.

With Sirius you can’t listen to a song on demand. Like for example if I want to listen to Hogan’s Hideaway right now I can. Someone on XM cannot.

The interesting thing about XM radio is if you change channels, a new song will start or you catch the last two seconds of the last song then a new one will start. How do they do that? Anyone else notice this? Very odd.

My wife ordered Sirius and it runs in both of our vehicles. She pays about $30/year.
As far as advertising, I have NEVER heard a single ad in the two years it has been running in my 2022 F-150. The radio is always turned on and tuned to channel 711.

I would never buy it for myself, but she likes it and the "Buried Treasure" channel is good stuff :-)

If you have Amazon Prime you can stream music. Some is free but a wider selection of music costs. Not sure how much. But they have zero commercials.

As I said we use Spotify. Zero commercials, absolutely none for $16 per month for a family subscription. Individual subscriptions are less. But still no commercials whatsoever.

I agree with you about commercials. One reason why I never listen to the radio.

My Sirus channels always advertised buying Sirus. No other advertising,, but they did like to toot their own horn & try & get you to buy more.

I don't have Amazon Prime,, or any other such stuff.

I do have a couple of FREE radio stations,, that do have some commercials. But again,, I also have a "Mute" button in my truck. Easily used when they begin their 2-3 minute commercial run. Especially when I know about when to expect it.

Had it in a 2014 that I bought new. It was nice because there are few radio stations in my area, and I hadn’t yet discovered podcasts (don’t listen to music much). Had 3 or 4 stations I would switch among, and hundreds I never listened to.
But had to threaten to cancel every six months to get the price low enough that I was willing to pay it. Wasn’t worth the effort once I figured out how to download podcasts and bluetooth them to the car audio.

A long time ago some folks floated the idea of Pay TV. It would have no commercials. The idea failed. Now we have various cable, satellite and streaming services all with commercials.

The pay radio wasn’t supposed to have commercials. Until it did.

I had Sirius for a long time. I was an early adopter back when you had to purchase a receiver/interface unit for your aftermarket stereo. Had it for about 3 years, but I couldn’t justify the expense especially since I only listened to about 3 channels. I decided they didn’t get any more of my money after they added the “alternative lifestyle” channels. Fast forward, I now pay about $6/month for Pandora premium. It’s on my phone and I can use it anywhere. Lots of personalization options and good quality sound. I really dislike broadcast radio- I want music,,not talking and advertisements.

Yeah, that was another thing that hacked me off. The DJ on Willie’s Place (formerly Hank’s Place) seems to be in love with the sound of his own voice. His inane prattle would have driven Mother Teresa to homicide.
