I am a rocker, but I love outlaw country like Waylon and Hank Jr. I also like some of country before the early 90's. My wife's brother in law has a first cousin named Frank Foster that is a country singer. We went to a couple of small gigs in north Louisiana about 10 years ago and watched him. He had a girl named Lainey Wilson opening for him. I told my wife then that she was looking at star that had not been discovered. I like a lot of her music and she is cute too ! Ha

There are some good up and coming country singers out there. Hell of it is, they don't fit the cookie cutter mold so many stations, and even country producers want. I've seen a few videos of this young man. He's from Australia, trying to make his bones in the states.

This is a cycle that has been repeated since the early 70’s at least. George Strait brought Garth Brooks Texas Playboys to Alabama.

I go good country to good classic rock to alt rock repeat till I can’t hear I guess.

I like Frank Foster's music, we drove out to Indiana to see Frank Foster and Creed Fisher in concert. We stayed for two days and also attended the AC/DC tribute band Thunderstruck concert.

Back in the 90's my apprentice was in a rock band. I went to see them when they played out at a club a couple of times. They had a really good sound. A guy from a record company took them into the studio, recorded a demo, analyzed their music, etc. Then he informed them that at that time they weren't signing anything but alternative music. For the most part the record companies/radio exec.'s control what gets out.
Social media has given us a way to hear people that don't get exposure from the traditional corporate radio, record company system though.

Check XM-radio's Chris Stapleton station, Channel 63. His choices are not Nashville-dictated.

It is unfortunate that true country/ country western music has been pushed to the side and forgotten like running a plow through a barn. In my area we do have a radio channel that does play some of the older stuff, but imo not enough. These artists were true pioneers of country then they are washed out of the barn for hip-hop style crap. Unfortunately Blues music has fallen down as well it just doesnt get the play time it deserves, streaming services are fine to a point but the artists lose money on alot of them. I do not listen to new country it just sounds terrible. I listen to older country, classic rock, heavy metal, love blues music. It's just unfortunate that modern music if you will has gone down the wrong strings leading to who knows where.

I just found out about Radio.Garden app.
It's a phone app that lets you sample radio broadcasts from all over, using a map and a circle to identify the location of the station.
Pretty cool.

Pandora has classic country stations that are pretty good. They do tend to concentrate on a few specific artists, though. I sometimes tire of the daily 'Merle Haggard Show,' and the 'Waylon Jennings Show.' There are, or were, other artists worth listening to.

Shortly after I arrived here in the Houston metro area in December, 2021, I decided to give modern country one chance. I lasted about halfway through the first song, when the guy started rapping. One and done. I'll listen to Mel Tillis and Waylon Jennings, with a little Merle Haggard and Hank Jr., thank you!
