SASS Wire Forum Terrible, SASS office staff is terrible any other CAS clubs?

I recently joined SASS to do some shooting and was scoping the classifieds for some gear on the SASSWIRE forum. joined up there and have been met with nothing but hostile old curmudgeons on that forum. I went to a local shoot and everyone was great, I explained what was going on and they said they stay far away from their forum becuase they moderators are complete controlling jerks and police everything you say if they don't like it they erase it.

This all started when I stated I was on the waitlist for a custom set of pistols, they basically said I didn't know what I was doing and nobody should spend that much on guns to start out , this is all knowing nothing about me or my shooting background. Well I got a warning for trolling they said

I posted in their saloon an opinion I had on something and they put me on post moderation which means I have to have every post approved before it shows up. I lost out on a few deals for gear because I couldn't post so it was getting irritating. I noticed before moderation whenever I would post their mods would erase my comments within minutes of posting. Now that they have to approve every post I make they basically ignore them and let them sit in pending. I have sent numerous messages to the different mods and can see they were online and read the message but they refuse to answer.

They always complain about needing new member but the way they treat the new people is absolutely insane, I am a paying club member and they won't even allow me to use their forum and suppresses every comment I make. I only post because I bought a couple NV I have out being customized and pretty discouraged with that club overall. Are their any other CAS organizations?

Way back when I was participating in CAS events, it was common knowledge to "stay off the wire"....That was some 15-16 years ago, and apparently, nothing has changed in that respect.

I normally only go to the classifieds to look over and post stuff for sale; it's the main reason I keep up my membership in SASS.
I may spend a few seconds on the main section to see what the threads are but don't post there nowadays and I may spend a few minutes looking over the saloon section occasionally and once in a great while might post there.

SASS has become too much of a gamer/equipment/speed race for me. Some gamer guy was recently asking if he could modifying his 1858 Remmie cap and ball hammers to be like Blackhawk hammers; a moderator told him it was fine to do so.
I would have told him, leave the cap and ball Frontiersman category alone; either use the guns as they are or go buy Blackhawks and play in some other category.

This is the only forum I belong to just because of that... too many folks think they need to be what I call a hall monitor.... moderators that have nothing better to do than just look for something or someone to punish/slap... they shoot too fast is my opinion... not the SASS one but another one, for some reason I was always on the owner / moderators watch list.... I think because he absolutely loves Glocks and I said something derogatory about them.... you could complain all day long about the gun brand that forum is based on but say something even close to negative about a Glock and you got called all kinds of stuff... well I said something negative about a certain politician who is again running for election which the moderator seems to think is the absolute most wonderful person on the planet it seems... I used two words to describe him which are absolutely true and I got put on double secret probation, could not post for 30 days... this was back in March... I have not been back.

the two words were "narcissistic fornicator".... the interesting thing about that forum is about half the members use the other 'f' word in a lot of their post and even for other politicians..... and that is perfectly fine it seems....

I signed up for the SASS forum the other day, I like revolvers and was looking at some of the posts about how to load 38 SC
In less than 24 hours I am “banned!”
I have no idea why, I wrote and asked “why?” No reply. I’ve never even been banned from FB! Pretty disappointed to say the least.

SASS is a "for profit " organization. I started back in the late 80's, was a lot of fun. I have not shot a SASS match in over 10 years as it became a mod gun race. NCOW's is non-profit and lets you run only stock guns, one or two pistols. What got me was SASS asked for donations to build a range in NM and then sold it. Money went to the owners.

I don’t participate in any organized gun competitions or groups.

Probably my loss, but I don’t deal well with cliques or arrogant nit picking self entitled people. In my experience those activities breed those types of people.

I go to a quiet range when nobody else is there and I do my own thing.

It’s really pathetic their forum can’t be a better place to promote their sport, but I’m not surprised.

I am a 'member' of a few other gun forums but never go to them since I found this one (ROCS is the exception). I got put on 'probation' on one for posting a question in the wrong section (I've not been back). Another has nothing but 'experts' regardless the question and talk down to everyone..

I used to shoot SASS. It was fun,, but the local club I went to,,, well, there were things that could have been done differently. As the saying goes,, "Little things, when combined,, became bigger things!" The last thing that they did, that made me quit,, was when I approached them to help a local, non-profit, Autism charity, to help raise funds with a match. This charity was small, and just helped families with autistic children with whatever they could. Run by (2) young ladies, who had autistic children themselves. The club president was all for it. Yet,, when he run it by his Board of Governors,, they,, in his words,, "almost attacked me" in total opposition to it. This was the same day the club match gave all the entry fees to a member who'd gotten injured,, (by his own stupidity) to "be charitable."
I quit,, and went to work on my range to make it bigger & to hold an annual charity match for them. We were quite successful and the ladies,, well, they would attend,, and even bring a few families who were the beneficiaries of our efforts. Lots of tearful appreciation was shared with the shooters.
While this isn't directly about the SASS forum,, I can say that when I was shooting SASS,, I was told then to "be careful" on that forum,, and "watch what you say" or I'd be restricted. I looked at it some,, and saw how things were being run,, and felt it wasn't "In the Spirit of the Game" so to speak. So,, I never bothered to register.
And when I went to SHOT,, and spoke with founding member,, NUMBER ONE,, :Judge Roy himself,, we discussed these things. He said that some of the little issues I felt were not good at my local club were not their concern (at the national level,) and they could run the matches as they saw fit. PLUS,,,,,,,, the SASS forum,, he said he didn't bother the moderators or whatever as it was "their place" to run it as they saw fit. Apparently,, it wasn't something they felt was needing any corrections.

There's saying in CAS, The SASSWire isn't CAS, Unfortunately the "keyboard commandos tend to take over the forum and if asked I would bet that a percentage haven't shot CAS very much. I'm going on my 29th year as a member of SASS and am a Life member. I rarely go to the SASSWire other than for the classifieds. Don't let the SASSWire sour you to one of the best shooting sports out there."

After reading replies here, I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that SASS is now a joke. When you can use a Colt Gold Cup in the Wild Bunch matches, sort of takes away any semblance of authenticity. I also think it has now who can "beat the system" so to speak. You know, like shooting at velocities that are only high enough to reach the target and make a noise; some of the holster set ups that remind me of modern "practical shooting" rigs; short stroked lever guns (VERY, VERY authentic...I think Tom Horn may have had one:rolleyes:); and a few other things I can think of. Too bad, it was a lot of fun when it first started.

You see a lot of different things on internet gun forums. Moderators at one place I used to post started deleting big sections of threads, if the friendly & polite discussion deviated in any way at all from the subject in the thread title. More recently, I was admonished by a moderator at a different site, for using the term "BS" (apparently they consider it profanity). Fair enough, I guess: each site has its own rules.

IMHO, FWIW, and YMMV, this forum is one of the very best I've ever encountered (thanks to everyone here :^)!!!
