As far as I can tell, SAAMI is an organization that records voluntary standards for ammunition and certain other shooting related subjects. Joining SAAMI is voluntary and one does not have to be part of the organization to manufacture ammunition.

Therefore they are not the official standards keepers, since adhering to SAAMI standards is voluntary......and that includes the names of cartridges....regardless of the idiotic claims of people who want to argue about increasingly diminutive "points" concerning nomenclature. 8)

SAAMI is the official standards for ammunition, all the chamber specifications in guns,, and just about everything else concerning both including the names.
The companies making guns or ammunition who are not members of SAAMI still pay attention to SAAMI and you'd better believe it, in spades !!!
Whether you agree or not is immaterial and the axe you are grinding is still mighty dull.
The correct name for the cartridge is still 45COLT and there is no other real name for it. All the rest is mere ignorence of that which has been known now for one hundred and fourty years of gun/cartridge history.

SAAMI says 9mm Luger. Is that the only name for that cartridge?

from Wiki:

The 9×19mm Parabellum (abbreviated 9mm, 9mmP, 9×19mm or 9×19) cartridge was designed by Georg Luger and introduced in 1902 by the German weapons manufacturer Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) for their Luger semi-automatic pistol.[6] For this reason, it is designated as the 9mm Luger / 9mm Luger +P by the SAAMI [7] and the 9 mm Luger by the C.I.P. (differentiating it from the 9mm Makarov and 9mm Browning cartridges). Under STANAG 4090, it is a standard cartridge for NATO forces as well as many non-NATO countries.[8]
