S&W ditches the LOCK

They deliberately created a market where "pre-lock" models were bringing more (sometimes substantially more) money on the used market than their politically correct suck up to Clinton (January 20, 1993 - January 20, 2001) before his term expired.

I was one who refused to buy lock models and was vocal about it, unfortunately it took 24 years or so of them losing sales to competitors and their own pre-lock models to wake up.

Hell, it took me 43 years to buy my first NEW MODEL Ruger blackhawk; still have not purchased a "locked" S&W. Us old folk are "thick" headed.

I have only owned one S & W revolver with the lock. It was a 686 and I never had any difficulty with it but it wound up being traded on something else.

IMHO: The lock was only one reason S&W's became unpopular with me. The intro of MIM parts took place around '95, though the dash # will tell if it's MIM or not. I don't have any MIM Smiths.

It doesn't mean there's anything particularly bad with MIM/lock Smiths, but why buy new when older non MIM/lock guns are everywhere at only a little more than a MIM/lock gun in most cases? Yes, very desirable Smiths can be considerably higher

Still, I'm glad to see Smith do away with the unsightly lock. It's taking a step in the right direction(y)

I have one with a lock, a 442. I removed the lock and later sent the gun back to S&W to fix an issue. They reinstalled the lock. I disabled it again. :)

This 442 also has a lock.
