I am an avid coin collector and firearm enthusiast. I thought to myself, what better way to combine the two than to inlay a coin(s) into one of my guns. Since my favorite coin is the mercury dime (a fairly small coin) I thought it would look very good on my SR22 pistol.
While I think it would be an awesome project, I don't even know if it's possible. I've never done any gunsmithing and would almost certainly take it to a professional to have it done. My only concern is that the area I want the inlay to be done may not be thick enough.
I think it would look cool to have the dime inlayed in the smooth area above the hand grip where your thumb rests (right between the safety and mag release). I'm sure there would also have to be enough room for the epoxy (or other bonding agent) at the bottom of the hole to hold the coin in as well as room on top for some sort of clear coat or finish to protect the coin.
If anyone knows if this will work or not I would love to hear from you. I am also open to alternatives since I'm just now starting to explore the idea.
