Ruger sp101 Wiley clapp help

Hello all, I have a 357 Wiley Clapp problem is I can't see the front gold bead sight. I would like a fiber optic front sight. I need it to be .200 tall. does anyone know where I might find one. I don't carry this cuz I can't see the front sight. but it is so comfortable to carry.

According to what I've read, Novak made the brass bead sight for the Wiley Clapp SP101. I looked on the Novak site, and they do have two .200 tritium white dot front sights for the SP101, but no fiber optic. They do have fiber optic sights available for the GP100, so it's surprising that they don't have them for the SP101.

I had a Gemini Small Wonder front site on an SP but it wasn't the WC model.

I have a SP101 (standard model) and the front sight is held in place with a pin. Looking at the pictures of the WC model SP101, there is a cut to accommodate the base of the Novak sight. I don't know if other types of sights will fit the Novak cut. The tritium sights might be bright enough to see. As far as I know, the existing sight can be tapped out with a dowel and a small hammer...when I contacted Novak about replacing the fiber optic sight on my GP100, they said not to use a sight pusher, as it would can the beveled base of the sight and damage it.

I have a standard model that I got a Gemini fiber sight for. Then I thought I would go one better and get the Wiley Clapp problem is I can’t see the gold bead in some light.i am having trouble locating a sight by sending emails. I guess it’s time to call around.

I'm not familiar w/ the Wiley Clapp version but fiber optic sights for S&W J frames fit the older SP101's.

I called around. The Novak fiber sight listed is for a 1911 and the dovetail base is wider than the SP101 so it would stick out the sides. They will make me one for an additional charge of 35 Bucks making a sight cost $79 thats to rich for my blood but I went ahead and ordered one since I can't see the gold dot. It seems I always end up having to much money in guns. oh well.

I'm glad you found one. I know what you mean about money...since I retired and we are living on a fixed income (how can it be fixed if I'm always broke?) I'm much more aware of what I spend than I was when I was working. I wish now I had been so aware all my working years...we'd have a much better portfolio!

Just a thought...you could list the bead sight here in the classifieds, and maybe recoup some of your money?

Thanks for the info. I went to their web site and ordered the smaller white dot tritium sight. The brass bead and I just don't get along anymore.

I am glad you told us you don't see that gold bead great. Everyone I talk to doesn't understand when I say I can't see it. Hey please let me know how you like that white sight. I really liked those millet sights they use to make.

From what I've read here and elsewhere, the stock bead sight isn't gold, it's brass. Novak does make a god bead front sight, but apparently what comes on the the WC and other models is actually brass...which can tarnish and isn't as bright as the gold bead sight. Ruger should describe it as brass or "gold colored" instead of gold. (Novak has them both listed on their website...brass and gold.)

I'm getting used to the fiber optic front sight on my GP100...I still want to change it to either a gold bead or a tritium white dot someday, but I'm not in any rush at this moment since the fiber optic sight is proving to be visible (except in the dark, of course.)

I got the sight this evening and just finished installing it.

There is a world of difference between this and the brass bead. The white dot really stands out and there is an ample amount of light on either side. The tritium is not the brightest I have ever seen but it is adequate. I am quite pleased. I bought this gun to carry and now that I can see the front sight I will be doing so.

I also do not like the gold bead front sights so I have painted mine testors piper cub yellow , flat, with fuel proof dope paint. It is a nice soft yellow sight and very resistant to solvents, made for model airplanes that would be exposed to model airplane fuel. Works for me. Also retired guy and frugal.

Thanks JStacy. I'll have to get some of that paint for my other guns with hard to see sights.
