Has anyone noticed a taller trigger guard opening starting on the NM in 1973 with the XRN-3RED grip frames? (Bisleys excluded).
Bill Hamm's excellent site doesn't mention it here:

http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_Ruger-SA-GripFrames.htm

Every grip frame since 1973 including alloy, steel, SS steel and KXR3 Old Army, old model style grip frames in 1975-76, have a 1/16" taller opening.

It wasn't that noticeable until I installed an XRN-3RED “short” frame, from the Single-Six .32s w/ Vaquero sights (about ¼” shorter than standard 1972/73 XRN-3RED. Stainless frame marked KXR3), on an OM single six.

You wouldn't think 1/16" larger would show but it just looked a little out of proportion on that smaller grip and small gun.

I'm imagine ham-fisted guys must have noticed it right off though.

Hmm, you're saying the actual trigger guard "oval" is larger?

I guess I've never noticed, but, I don't have hardly any New Model shooters w/o Super Blackhawk grip frames....

Yes, the bottom of the oval is extended an additional 1/16" lower.

I no longer own any Super BHs old or new model, so I haven't checked them. I'll have to check my son's NM and a friends OM to see if there is any difference. Probably not. Oh what webs we weave when we get into this trivia..........
