Ruger P-38 question - update

Local guy is selling a P-38. Includes custom holster, 3 mags and a couple boxes of 9mm . Assuming it's in decent condition what would be a fair price? Also, would it have any collector value? No pics, listed in Monroe County Shopper this week.

ETA. I could not find a "P38" model ever produced by Ruger. Called the man, and he insists it's a Ruger marked P38 on the barrel. Single stack 9mm. Says he bought it new a couple years ago. Something ain't right about this. :roll:

Yeah, I got this figured out. Post war aluminum frame Walther P.38 made between '57-'63. Actually not a real good deal @$400.

Many years back I worked in a small gun shop. A young man came in looking for a 32 caliber S&W revolver. We had one and I showed it to him. The prices was around $125.00. He did not care for the price so he left. About an hour passed and he returned.

He laid a Clerke 1st nickle plated 32 on the counter and then called me a crook. I asked why he thought so and he said he had just bought this brand new Smith and Wesson for $20. I pointed out that the gun said Clerke 1st on the frame - but that didn't matter to him. The barrel had .32 S&W stamped on it. Therefore it was a Smith and Wesson. Therefore I was a crook.

I then laid the S&W beside his gun and he claimed they were identical. At this point I gave up. :roll:

Having worked in a rather large gun shop myself, I feel your pain on this one! You can't fix stupid.

I once watched a Clerke go for $200.00 at an estate auction. All I can think of, is two people really wanted a gun and it was a cash money/no paperwork sale.

Unfortunately the people that $20 gas station revolvers were marketed too don't understand quality or "reason". $200 for one at auction ... Wow!
