What are the advantages/disadvantages in putting in a magazine disconnect on their mark3/mark4?

It allows Ruger to sell those guns in states that mandate things like manual safeties, magazine disconnects and loaded chamber indicators.

Magazine disconnects are a pretty contentious issue. They are indeed a safety feature to protect those who remove a magazine and forget to clear the chamber from shooting themselves or someone else. But they allow sloppy gun handling and turn a pistol with a damaged magazine into an expensive, awkward club. They have been around for a long time and the Browning Hi-Power, designed in the 1930's, has one.

Some like them and some hate them. I would never want one on a defensive pistol but see no problem with one on a target .22. The MkIV version is less annoying than the MkIII version since it doesn't interfere with field striping and reassembly.

The P35 was mostly designed by John M. Browning in the mid-20s, but released in 1935. Removing the disconnect in a P35 can clean up the trigger pull a lot.

OK, for historical accuracy I should have written .....the Browning HP was first sold in the 1930's...... Anyway, my point was that the concept isn't new or unique to Ruger.

And yes, removing them does help the trigger pull and convenience of most of the guns they come on. The one on the MkIII is particularly annoying.
