Hello,
I just joined the forum, and looking forward to learning a lot here. I am interested in buying a new 308 rifle in a model 77. Particularly this one, http://www.ruger.com/products/m77MarkIITarget/specSheets/17979.html

Can anyone tell me if that gun comes with a bull barrell? I really want to find a 308 model 77 wood stock, with a bull barrell. Does anyone have any experience with this particular rifle, thoughts/concerns? Also, i've read many posts where folks say these are awesome rifles but have a very hard trigger. Is the trigger adjustable? If not, what type and brand of aftermarket trigger is the best for this rifle.

This will be an all around rifle, lots of target shooting, varmit, and white tail deer. I want a hunting rifle that is a tack driver, cheap to shoot, not too much recoil, hence the selection for the 308. I have a 270 WSM in an Abolt, love the gun but really have an itch for the Ruger.

Greetings,

Yes, it has a bull barrel, and should weigh about 9.5 to 10 pounds. The L6 trigger is very good, and the pull weight should be about three pounds. The 308 is a good choice because it will do about anything you want.

Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't call it a bull barrel on those rifles. More like a heavy taper. Still plenty stout though. Lots of stories out there on how good the Ruger varmint rifles shoot. And they have a 2 stage trigger. Dont know if it is adjustable or not but it is supposed to be a fine trigger.

I have one of these rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor. I'm finally getting around to setting it up.

I would also agree its a heavy taper over a bull barrel. Its still very stout.

The triggers on these rifles are very good, and they are adjustable but really not necessary. Mine is 3-3.25lb as it came from the factory.

I have one in .220 Swift that I bought back in the late seventies. I love it! I used it to assassinate woodchucks back when I lived in Virginia to good effect.

The rifle is a little heavy but the trigger is crisp and very good. I have sold off a lot of my guns but just can't seem to part with that one.

PS. It functions best with my own hand loads.
