Ruger MK1 sight question

Hi, i have just picked up this ruger MK1 .22 semi auto, according to the serial number is was made in 1961 or 1962, my question is, is the front sight original? it appears to be a copy that someone has made but i am not sure, it seems too high, i looked through some old pics on the net and couldnt find anything that looked similar, i thought that maybe someone had put the adjustable rear sight on themselves and took of the fixed sight? any info as to the originality of the sights is most welcomed, and possibly where i may be able to buy the correct sights from? thanks Damien

It does appear to be a standard model, (fixed sights, 6" bbl") that has had a set of adjustable rear sights added. To compensate for that, a taller front sight has been fabricated.
A call to Ruger will get you the correct model nomenclature, (RST6 maybe) and that will help you.
It looks like a well done job.

That is not a Mark I, it's a standard pistol (RST6).

RST = fixed sights

Mark I = Adjustable sights, some other stuff

The nomenclature distinction is a minor one, important mostly to purists.

The rear sight looks like a Millett and the front is fabricated.

Can you post a pic of the back of the rear sight blade?

Thanks guys for the info, here is a pic of the rear sight, i didnt realise that this model wasnt called a MK1, even though it fits that time frame, you learn something everyday!!

yessir, good info above, and indeed a Millet rear adjustable sight......thats what one has to do wiiht one of them HIGH rear sights, best to get a "low profile adjustable" that uses a standard front blade, no need to change them......
your gun will work ,but it just looks "hokie" and that front sight will slice open any leather holster..............
