hi, i have a mark III target and i was wondering if anyone uses the V-notch Rear Sight and HiViz® Front Sight Set. any improvement over factory? would you recommend for hunting situations?
thanks BB

I have a couple of sets myself and enjoy mine also.

Some do prefer using the square-notch rear sight ILO of the V-notch..... combined with the HiViz front sight.

I put one on my target model and like them. I can't remember exactly where I got them... I think they were williams or millet... will have to check... but these are the fiber optic type... one in front and two dots in back.

ordered a set from ruger today. anyone know how long they take to ship items? thanks BB

The next day from my previous experiences...if in stock of course!

one came on my Hunter MKIII 6in barrel...
i used it for a while, it was fast but i put the regular adjustable sights on it, bought them from Ruger.

if i get another MKIII (i mean when) i will probably leave the HiViz on or put this set that i have in a box on it..

i like it so so, dont care for the V notch part of it. I also dont like covering the target with the sight but rather, placing the point of impact at the tip of the front sight blade

i dont think you are supposed to do that with the HiViz, but i could be wrong...

they are faster to get on target, i do give them that...

what do you other fellas say/think?

Have one on my Hunter, excellent for hunting, just beware, if you snag the front site, the HIVIZ site will pop out and be lost forever, dont ask how I know. lol

I recently put a Hi Viz on the front sight of my Mark II target. I decided to keep the square notch rear sight instead of use the V rear sight.

I was wondering how you all have found the fiber optic element holds up to cleaning. Does contact with solvent (which I will try to prevent, but you know how that goes) mess up the fiber optic element?

They hold up pretty good, like I said earlier they can be easily dislodged if it gets snagged. The green color in my opinion is much better than the red. As soon as I find a different front site that I like I am going to change my out.

I just took delivery (finished the 10 day waiting period) of a Mark III Hunter (6.88" fluted barrel) which comes standard from Ruger with the Hi-Viz V rear sight and fiber optic front sight. I went immediately to the range and put about 200 rounds through the gun. I find the V sight to be easy to use and I was certainly getting good groups centered on the target bull's-eye. A notch rear sight might make for faster target acquisition for some people. However the V rear sight seems to make for more accurate alignment of the sight picture. I would say that this is the trade-off between the two. It is not a huge trade-off, as I did not find that it was hard to quickly acquire with the V sight; on the other hand I am about as accurate with the notch rear sight which is what is, in fact, on my Mark II. So not a big difference between the two in my opinion.
