Hi,
I have a M77 MKII all-weather (Boat paddle stock) that was purchased in 1999. I wanted to turn it into a compact, cutting the barrel down and using the laminated MKII compact stock (for sale by MidwayUSA). It seems like the actions are the same, but are the barrel contours the same as well? I was told by a ruger rep that they aren't, but they both look like a thin profile barrel. Can anyone verify this? Thanks!

I think the contours might be different in that the compact barrel tappers down quicker but you could solve that by opening up the barrel channel a little in the compact stock. If you do decide to do the build and your boat paddle stock is a short action and your willing to part with it let me know. Thanks and I hope I helped some what.

Tp the best of my knowledge, the Compact, Ultralight and International all use the ultralight "pencil" barrel profile. The standard barrel profile has a longer shoulder and a little less taper.

Thanks for the help, I didn't realize the barrel contours were different.

collectormzornes, I'll keep you in mind if I ever decide to sell my stock.
