I just bought a new Ruger American in 243 Winchester, i had to go lighter than my 30.06 because of arthritis in my right shoulder. I am cleaning it now and notice the rifling is much shallower at the muzzle than on my other calibers. Is this normal?, i can see the rifling, it's just not as pronounced as other guns I have. I haven't shot it as I don't have a scope on it yet. Thanks

If I didn't get a different feel when pushing a tight patch or brush through that area I'd be less concerned. Then shooting it on paper will tell the rest.

Well today I shot it, I put a Banner 3-9x40 scope on it with Weaver Quad Lock rings. First shot was an inch to right and 3 inches low. Adjusted and next hit was 1.75 inches high at 100 yds and center. I then shot 3 more and all went into a spot you can cover with a penny. I am gonna love this gun. I kinda knew I would since it's a Ruger. Also after giving the barrel a good cleaning with Hoppe's as it was cruddy, the rifling is sharp and nice. Ruger finally responded after I was done and told me to clean it as it may preservative from the factory. Well now to get out and kill some coyote's and in November deer. The farm I have permission on has only one rule if you want to deer hunt, hunt coyote's too. Oh I almost forgot I am usually a Federal fan but all they had was Winchester 100 grain power points, the way they shoot I ain't gonna try nothin else. Thanks everyone.

Been hearing good reports of accuracy with the new non frills rifles from Ruger and Savage. May not be as fancy without the black walnut stocks but accuracy does not seem affected with the synthetic stocked guns from many reports I have read. Happy with my 22 mag rimfire so far. Light and handy.
