Ruger 1911 commander is real!

My Regional Ruger Sales Mgr, confirmed to me early this morning that the Commander SR1911 is real and orderable this month. A member of the "other Ruger Forum" reported that he was picking up one of ten delivered to his LGS this week............ I do not have the SKU for the gun...........MIKE 8)

Seems logical as I was starting to see the 5 inch guns in more and gunstores in cases with all the other 1911s in the upper $600 range.

It is harder than heck to get the full size gun around here. Bet we have had no more than 15-25 in our shop since Ruger announced it. Currently have not had one in a couple of weeks. Don't forsee this one being any more available! But, I hope so. I put off buying the full size, as I already own a few full size 1911s, and I have my Kimber Ultra carry for an Officers size, but don't currently own a Commander. I reckon I will buy one when we get one!

Being the doubting Thomas that I am, called Ruger Customer Service this morning and was advised yes, SR1911CDM's (commander model) are in stock and being shipped to the wholesalers now. Then called my dealer to place my name on his want list. I am number 1 for a Ruger Commander. Life can be good sometimes.

The Ruger Commander is like a mountain. Why not climb it if it is there? Or in otherwords, why is there vanilla and chocolate ice cream....peoples choice? I just wanted one!

As I said above ... if you can carry a steel commander .... you can just as easily carry a 5 inch one.
On the other hand ......... if you just want one for the sake of having it .... that's cool.

Exactly! It is much harder to hide the handle than the barrel, if they would have taken a half-inch off the butt along with that shorter barrel I would be in line to get one. But, this is just a waste of effort IMO.

Looks like we have differing opinions. I do believe it's easier/more comfortable/more concealable to carry a Commander. Trust me, I've carried both to know. :wink:
As for recoil, I don't recall saying anything about "being worried." One of my ideas of fun is shooting hot handloads in my .45 Colt Blackhawk. But I will take any advantage I get in a rapid fire gun fight.

I don't think the 8 round clip is bing shipped with the SR1911 Commander model........Spec sheet says 7 + 1.......The early full size shipped with 2 clips: one 7 and one 8 round magazine.........HHmmmm?
