I havn't posted anything for sometime now. But can anyone notice what makes this gun so rare? :shock: It an RST6 standard with "Made in the 200th year of American liberty" roll marked on the receiver. Serial number 13-58764.

I'm with gramps, it has one of the left over tapered bolt stops from the MK I's, part of the old "parts bin theory".........

Tapered bolt stop. Only 3 have been found per the RENE with 6 in. bls. Great find. I nevered found one in 40 yrs. of collecting.

Yes it is the bolt stop. Street is right only three known to date. First one I have ever seen myself in my collecting time.

I opened this post and the first thing I noticed was the bolt stop pin. I had heard of them,, but never seen one. Rick you have scored another nice one!

A little history on the Tapered Bolt stop Liberty guns. This information is from the RENE. You can subscribe to it through this link (http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=30544).
In the standard model there were about 2000 of the RST4s made and now there are "4" known in the RST6 model. So far there have not been any T512s found, although one could take the bolt stop from a RST4 and install it in a T512, so buyer beware. As for the T678 only about 1250 made. More research is needed to understand shipping dates on these rare guns so if a T512 is ever found then it will need a factory letter to prove it was shipped by the right date.

T512------- MK-I target model, 5 1/2 in bull bl.
T678------- MK-I target model, 6 7/8 in. bl.

Well my "BLACK BOOK" says I have a pair of RST4 Liberty's with the taper bolt stops....13-53535 and 13-53536....I sure hope my book isn't lying to me....bought them from an old time auto collector but can remember his name at the moment....I believe he was from the Findlay OH area.....about 6'6" tall....he now has a son that makes him look small....I still see the two of them at the local shows on occasion..... see ya RR. Well I just remembered the name....Ron Inbody or something close....

Yes, the tapered bolt stop guns are pretty neat.
Check out page 112 of my auto book and you'll see a pic there of number X5 Mark I, built in 1950.
The dovetail for that prototype was further back than regular production, so Ruger felt the need to taper the top of the bolt stop in order to keep the rear sight overhang from hitting the stop if the rear sight was adjusted all the way down. By moving the sight dovetail forward Ruger didn't need to taper the stops.
Really the only reason those 20,000 or so autos with tapered bolt stops exist in the late 1975 to early 1976 time period is that somebody found a bunch of old parts laying there that they could make good use of!
Neat stuff really, knowing the tapered bolts stops are a remnant of prototype Mark I production!!

My T678 13-394XX has one of the tapered pins . . . shipped October, 1975.
