RIP: Frank Masuoka, USA

Hi,

Since we've been talking about the WW2 West Coast relocation, I thought I'd put a short video up. It concerns retired Capt. Frank Masuoka, with whom I used to work, and a real gentleman. Also a hero, at least in my book, who was awarded the Silver Star way back when. I've posted it before, but worth watching. This was taped late in Frank's life so he speaks a bit slowly. Only five minutes long, it really is worth your time. The text of the Silver Star award is read at the end.

Frank passed last October, surrounded by family with his beloved Ginger by his side. Here's the obit:

There was a man.

When I asked him how the hell he did it, he grinned and said, "I used my command voice."(!)
Good thing he did. His brother, a member of the 442nd, died in Europe, I believe in Italy.

Hi,

Two friends are sansei, one my buddy's wife, the other an old shooting buddy. Each of their Dads served in the 442nd, and made it back in one piece. Neither ever talked much about what they did over there, but returned home to start new lives to replace the old ones taken from them and their families during the war. And they did great jobs, too. I hope Captain Masuoka finds them in whatever Valhalla they all now reside in. A prayer comes from SoCal for the Captain's family in their loss, while a silent "Thank you, Sir" comes to him.
