Sounds good .... But you're well outside the parameters of the challenge .... Apples and oranges as they say. Not only that ... The LTC is a commander model, not a govt model.

You got some real nice guns there, but they're not in the same price class, or at the same quality level, or even the same size, which was the whole idea of the challenge, to compare guns at the same entry level price point.

Beautiful guns, and great choices in 1911's ! Love the Operator ! Too bad about that rail .... :D

REV

Only one "odd" is the Champion. Both the Para and Ruger are the same.Commander length

And I'll tell you how since it's obvious noone will take your challenge....Rollmarks,Ruger's are laser etched and not as deep as everyone else's.

Ah ... Didn't catch the Commander length Ruger.

What about the cast in plunger tube ? :D

Nice target Rev...and no powder burns around it...gotta assume it really was 50 feet! Just looking at the load on it...4.3 gr of 231? Did you use a lighter recoil spring to get it to function? My standard load for any of my .45's is 5.2 gr of 231 with a 200 gr TWC.

Here's my Ruger, and a target shot from 20 yds with a Weaver Stance: can't tell you if I could tell it apart from the others in the dark...a 1911's a 1911 after all, but it's as good as any .45 I've ever owned; and that'd be Colt predominantly, with the two Rugers and a Remington-Rand WWll beauty. The gun below has functioned 100% with factory stuff for over 2000 rounds now, and fumbled my hand loads only when I mis-set the seating die and left 'em too long.

So why's it so good? I'd say the features: SS construction, beveled mag well, extended safety & slide lock, humped grip safety that helps with my 'thumbs up, ride the safety shooting grip', great tgt grade bbl., and good sights...and all for the paltry sum of $650-$750 locally. Can't think of another with a similar setup that goes for that price. Best Regards Rod (PS: that 3rd pic is of a real hero...and darn near as accurate as the Ruger!)

Good shooting Rod !

Regarding the recoil spring, nope ... I've never changed or swapped a recoil spring on any gun in my life ... Other than to replace with a like spring after 10000 rounds or so .... Every 1911 and other auto has always performed flawlessly just as they came from the factory. That load is the most accurate I've come up with in about 30 yeArs of reloading the 45. 200 gr LSWC, and Winchester LPP.

Maybe that's why my 1911's all work PERFECTLY ....I don't mess with em !

Rev: I'll give that light load a try, and thanks for the tip. I did change out the recoil spring in the SR1911 for the standard 16 # I usually run in my .45's. Best Regards, Rod

From an actual felt recoil perspective, it's not really that light ... Of course it's not a factory 230, but factory 230's aren't that great anyway IMO. The beauty of the 45 is it's accuracy, and for me it's a range caliber, so I value accuracy over all other parameters.

The SR1911 is a great gun!
But can you REALLY tell the difference, as many of you SAY YOU CAN?

I hate to say it, but the 1911 section of the forum, would be pretty boring without REV. He does his best to keep it interesting! I like the way people can argue here without letting it get personal.

I`m also wondering how 4.3g of 231 can function without a reduced recoil spring.
I have found that 200SWC/4.5g is absolute magic for accuracy but less than reliable in my target 1911 platforms without running the lightest Wolf spring I have.
The only guns I had that would run on less than 5.0g in stock form is a very smooth Charles Daly I acquired several years ago and my old Kings Gunworks custom 5".

Nice shooting, Rev.

Hi Bill,

Nah .... 4.3 runs all my 1911's without any issues. Never had a problem in over a dozen guns, and a bunch of friends guns. It may be light by the book, but it really doesnt FEEL that light when shooting it. Of course its not a hot 230.grain load, but i dont want it to be.

Merry Christmas !
