Restoration / Repair Plans approved!

Only took 5 weeks for the city to review, kick back and then comment on and finally say 'ok' on our application to repair our home from the damage by Helene... this is after paying a architect 3k to draw out the plans because I could not understand the city's requirements for them and everything has to be done on line. Another amazing part is our sub contractor finally got the 811 folks to come out and mark the underground power line, this is after I had submitted 3 request starting the end of January... got the letter saying OK yesterday along with a 4 page PDF of comments from each inspection department, seems there are at least 5, basically saying we have to do everything to code and the way it is on the drawn plans.... now to actually get the permit we only have to pay the city $515.40. The funny part is when you go to pay they say if you pay on line there is a 2.65% service charge.... but here's the thing... seems that is the only way you can pay! So, why even say this, just add it in? Anyway this is not really a complaint because I decided when we started on this path it was going to be an adventure... now we can at least dig a hole and trench (for post and foundation) so 'they' can come out and look at that.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves, right after asking me if I want to tip before I have received the service I am supposed to be tipping for.

One of the interesting parts of this is that in all the rules and regulations they list two of them are that the permit with sign offs for all the inspections along with the approved plans have to be on the job site at all times.. For the last 9 months they've been building a new house just up the street from us and up until a month ago it was open and unlocked. I went up there and looked around several times and in the house three times. never did I ever see a permit / inspection form, usually it is in a big plastic box outside with the house plans... this I could never find in or out. Now that I'm thinking about it, my hope is to keep most of the work out of the main part of our house and so I need to put one of those boxes up out back. I keep thinking of our contractor, a guy who worked on our house 9 years ago the last time a tree fell on it and has paid me for various chimney work over the years is really not the contractor, but only a sub contractor and my wife who owns the house or at least she is the rep for her living trust is actually the contractor and I guess I'm a sub in a way, and actually more than one.
