have any of you guys and gals ever pulled and reseated bullets in factory ammo, to correct oal? it seems to me that because oal is so critical to accuracy, it would be a simple way to optimize factory ammo for a specific gun. as it is now, my savage is so inaccurate with factory ammo, i don't even feel like shooting it, but i've got some stockpiled. i would feed it one at a time, since the caneluer would be out of position.
i made it to the range, and the reseated batch shot the same as the unmolested pmc, that is to say, terrible! 2.5" group at 100 yards, exactly the same. there is something about this ammo that my savage hates. i also shot my handloads, and i deployed my chrony for the first time. eye opening to say the least. i have opened pandora's box, i think.

Have you tried more than one type of factory ammo? Most Savage rifles shoot quite well with factory. As far as pulling bullets & reseating, you can do that although I would dump the powder & at least neck size the case before reseating the same bullet. Pulling the bullet without resizing the neck can make quite a difference because after a period of time loaded ammo becomes "cold" welded in the neck, thats why many if not all competition shooters reseat all their ammo just before a match.
Good luck with your experiments.

Not sure what your trying to do but you can press the bullet a little deeper on your press without pulling the bullet if that what your needing?

Like already said you will need to resize the neck if you pull it, I'm getting the impression your ammo is a bit long for your rifle is that correct or am I misunderstanding?

factory ammo is way short (.100) in my savage. i'll be hitting the range next weekend (weather permitting) to gather some data, and i think i'll try reseating 5 pmc's for a group pic. that's the brand that has been particularly spastic in this gun.

I would NOT expect large changes in accuracy by only changing the seating depth.
If your rifle shoots ANY LOAD WELL and just simply hates those factory loads, changing the seating depth WILL NOT make them shoot good. There is something about the combination that does not agree with your gun.
Weatherby rifles were long throated (free bored) to lessen pressure and they almost always are very accurate even with the bullet jumping into the rifling.

PMC is imported crap from Korea or some place I wouldn't expect to much out of it, I don't think your going to gang any accuracy out of them by moving the bullet out but stranger things have happened, personally I wouldn't pull them I'd just put them in my hammer puller and smack them out a bit more than I wanted them then adjust the length with my press.

Good news is after you fire them the brass may grow that .100 longer for reloading. :D
