First time taking my MKIII apart for thorough cleaning and couldn't figure out how to get the Altamont grips off. I'm sure there is something I am missing but I didn't want to force anything and break something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you tried taking the 2 screws off on the grip? It should be a 2 piece grip and that is a nice gun! Now go buy a vq sear and vq mk2 bushing to make the gun even better.

I did take out the screws but the grip did not seperate. It acts like a one piece grip but you can see the seem where they should come apart.

You're right to proceed with caution.

I don't know about your specific grips but I recently encountered the same problem with a Browning Buck Mark. The grips had a seam running down the grip under the trigger guard. Turned out it was a false seam and they were one piece grips. Ended up causing me all kinds of trouble.

Hold the gun by the barrel and with a non-marring hammer, tap on the back of the bolt. The vibration should help seperate them from the gun.
