What is required to remove the jeweling from a Super Blackhawk hammer? Is it possible to hand polish, buff or?
thanks Charlie

charlies, I simply buff those out on a muslin wheel with a little bit of "rouge" compound. If it's really deep then you can use a fine wire wheel brush with a little gun oil!....................Dick

to keep from "rounding off" the edges and to keep things "flat" we wrap a piece of emery paper ( aluminum oxide) 220 or 'fine' grit, over the end of a flat piece of 1/4 in. hard wood, and do all the polishing by hand ............lay the hammer on a piece of rubber to keep from sliding around on the work bench. Or between a couple of pieces of leather in the jaws of the bench vise.................

Lay a piece of 400 grit on a flat surface and lay a straight edge over it. Lay the hammer against the edge and slide the hammer back and fourth. Repeat with the hammer on the other side. To get the pattern the same, the hammer must be turned upside down as well as flipped on the other side.

the spur ( wide) keeps from getting the "proper" polish direction on the Super hammers, and if you put it on the edge and 'stop', you can and will get and "see" this stop/go/return' change in directions on any of them that have been polished that way....look at it with a GOOD light...thats what refinish and restorarion folks look for on any "questionable" gun as to it being redone or not........learned this from one of the old time "Master" Colt Python builders back in the late 60's..............

yes, a flat hammer, for ANY other model can be done that way, heck ,even on a " fine" belt sander, takes about 3-4 seconds to do one.......
aluminum oxide paper gives an even NICER polish/finish........... 8)
