Remington 1911 R1 Owners, your thoughts please

I have a chance to get one of these, LNIB, 2 factory clips, etc, for $450.00 otd; R1 version...

What do you think of yours; hell; even just if you shot your bud's...? Is $450.00 a good price (for one with less than a "box 'o shells" thru it, near as i can tell...?

If you search this site, you'll discover the folks that hate these guns still do, those of us that've actually owned them still like them very much, and $450 is a smokin deal. 8)

My point was not suggesting doing a search, but just showing that if you did, you'd find folks very bias'd over this gun.

I do like them very much, and mine operated and shot as perfectly as the best 1911's I've ever shot.

Like you say; some saying it was great; all made here, etc....next fellow talking of his buddy that works for Rem, and how those slides, you know, are made in Korea :lol:

Love mine! I've never seen one for sale used so the others who bought must be happy too. $450 sounds like a good deal.

I purchased one, a few months back. The accuracy this pistol has is just great. One of the best 1911's I own, and I shoot if often. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

YES indeed, the 'net is a weird place, Particularly when it was noted very plainly a while back in the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN that the slides and frames of the new REMINGTON 1911 pistol are made by RUGER for the folks at REMINGTON.

I have both the Ruger SR1911 as well as a Remington 1911R1 and love them both.

You won't be disappointed with the Remington as it's a very reliable pistol.

Truth be told ... it's a RARE 1911 that isn't a good gun. Some may be more refined and better finished than others .... but they ALL generally work really well if you keep your kitchen-table-amateur-gunsmithing hands OFF of them.

Even the lowest price 1911's like the RIA's are excellent guns. That's why the platform has survived and prospered for 100+ years.

I've never really seen a bad one.

You touched on something I've always wondered about.

100 years of being made by dozens of companys. How come they are still so expensive? Usually the more units made and sold the cost to make them drops and the price drops too. Yet 1911's have always been at the top of the food chain almost any other automatic is cheaper. I doubt it is even possible to put an accurate number on the companys that have made 1911's in the last 100 years. How can all those companys make all those millions of basically the same pistol that they did not have to design and they still be so expensive?

Even the used market is crazy. Millions of 1911's on the used market, try to find one for under $500. The market should be flooded. I don't get it.

That is just flat-out, totally not true.

If you think it is ... you've never really shopped 1911's. RIA, Springfield, and Colt all have 1911's well under $1000. Hell .... you can get a Colt Gold Cup brand new for right around $1000. You can get GI RIA's for about $375, and Springfield GI models for about $500, or $650 for the MilSpecs.

As to cost ... they're ALL metal, the best ones are forged, and it just plain costs more to make metal guns than it does plastic ones.

You can get a very good 1911 that shoots very good out of the box, is quite reliable, and even at their WORST .... 1911's have triggers that blow away any SA/DA plastic fantastic wonder-whatever.

Your right about the cost, I'll go back and edit that out.

In my defense I live in an area that has a very high gun market, and not all of those maufacturers are available to me to buy. I'm not in touch with the rest of the nation as far as gun values. So I crossed a line when I brought the values up. I guess I was on a rant and got carried away, sorry.

When the Remington R1 came out and it was available to me at a reasonable cost it was a God send.

I have yet to see a SR1911. All the gun shops here sell them for $700 and can't keep them in stock.

I just can't think of any other product that is made by so many for so long that still demands such a high price.

How many were made each year for the last 100 years and the market is not flooded? That is amazing! I just don't understand were they all go.

Yes, I have one made at the end of 2011, early 2012 and it's a well made gun with all the early bugs fixed. It's tight, accurate, well finished, and an all around fun gun to shoot. It was $650, same price in every store in my area. When you shoot it you wonder why on earth anyone would pay those custom costs, which I frankly find a waste of money. As far as I can tell it is actually made in NY.

I own an Remington R1 in stainless. I love it. 700 burp free rounds downrange in the first month. Very accurate well finished. I researched the whole deal as I wanted an American made 1911 because I can only afford ONE. The bottom line is the steel is smelted in Pennsylvania everything else is done in New York. Since I could afford only one I am damn glad I got this one. Nothing against the Ruger, I would have bought it if I could have located one when I had the cash in hand.

Umm... Union labor? Material costs rising weekly? Transportation costs rising even faster. Wanna talk about the cost of programming & powering a couple of CNC lathes 6 days a week? Attorneys aren't cheap. And it's also pretty easy to build a gun that gets one lousy review, and poisons the marketability.

I agree, try to find quality for under $500. (which was about $239 when I started shooting).

And my R1 keeps on running... if it were pink I'd think it was the eveready bunny!
