I was just thinking about him last week,, when they showed pics of snow & a snowskier.

Carl was indeed one of the good guys. He is missed. Happy heavenly birthday Carl.
This forum is his legacy. Perhaps we should pronounce him Saint Carl? Love ya man!

Interesting you brought this up. I'm get'n to the point (age) where I need to "cull" some firearms.... Every time I go through the "list" of revolvers that have a "foot out the door", a shooter grade 4 5/8" Flattop 357 Mag. goes through my mind and is quickly dismissed. It was my first internet purchased gun... Carl sold it to me. Told me what it was, when it was produce, the type, everything about it, and very graciously walked me through the purchasing process. That was in 2002...I had every intention in turning it over to Clements to have it converted to 44 Special. Well, Ruger finally brought out the New Model 44 Special Flattop and I scratched my itch with one of those.... I never met Carl, only knew him from the Ruger forum and my purchase. He did meticulously answer some of my questions here on the forum and I gained a deep respect for the man I never met. That old Ruger Flattop will remain with me until my time comes. I call it Flatgate's Flattop and I still smile when I hold it and pull back the hammer and hear those clicks. A great man and greatly missed.... Lord knows, Heaven's got a Ruger expert "up there"....

Carl was the person who clued me in to the existence of the stainless Single-Six with a 9-1/2” barrel.
I had posted an inquiry as to whether anyone thought we could get a “Distributor Exclusive” made.
He suggested that I buy one of the ones that had already been made…

I searched, and it just so happened that there was one on one of the auction sites… so I bought it!
I always enjoyed his stories of thinning out rockchucks at the ski hill. 8)

yes, Happy Birthday flatgate. I barely recall the early days of ruger forum, seems so looong ago. He influenced some of my own Ruger activity and I was happy to contribute to the collective gift celebrating his generosity.

I was on the phone last night with another Forum member,, and we were discussing Carl,, and how much fun he was.
I recall how I joined the Forum 20 years ago,, BECAUSE it was not only about Rugers,, BUT,, because I was truly entertained by this guy called "Flatgate" and another member "weaselmeatgravy" who were bantering back & forth about the VW "Rugermobile." That was even before Carl took over. When he took over,, and later did some upgrades,, all that old stuff was lost. Truly regrettable,, as it was golden! Carl & I discussed it a few times. Great memories. WMG is still around,, but doesn't post as much,, but it was those two guys that stuck out to me.
