About 3 years ago I was dressed with 2 cap and ball 1851 Navies, a 1873 rifle and double barrel shotgun. I do live where the closest neighbor is 3/4 a mile away. A car comes down the drive, .2 mile long. with two ladies in it. The ladies come to the door , I was going out to target practice for a SASS match. They looked at me coming out of the door didn't say a word just turned around got in their car and drove away. It was better than telling them my religion. They have not stopped by sience then. Gave me a good laugh! Any of you have something like that happen to you.

One day I pulled up into the yard from work and two young Mormons on bikes pulled in behind me. I got out of the truck holding a pistol (still in its holster) and they both said very politely, excuse me. We did have a nice, but short, conversation.
I think at one at one point they asked me if I was in law enforcement, and I replied, "no."

A little while back I was out in my workshop, which is located behind my house. I was constructing some props for an upcoming SASS match. To that end I had cut two 12" pieces of closet dowel, drilled a 1/8" hole in one end of each and inserted about 12" of green coated electrical wire. Each piece had been painted red and Labeled with a "Dupont" insignia. For those not familiar I had replicated two sticks of dynamite. Now my neighbor across the street is always interested in my little projects and I had seen him out in the yard earlier, so I decided to walk out to the road to see if he was still outside. Just by chance a young man had been ringing my doorbell to sell me some magazines or something, and after getting no response, was leaving. As luck would have it he came around the garage at the exact moment that I came around from the shop and we met at opposite sides of the driveway about 15" apart. He took one glance at the two sticks of "Dynamite" and took off on a full run down the road, never looking back. It took me a second to absorb what had happened, leaving me laughing out loud. Sadly my neighbor had gone inside and missed the entire event. I'm laughing again just visualizing the kid running like his life was in jeopardy. I still wonder how his sales went for the remainder of the day. Bet he's still telling the story at Thanksgiving dinners. "I remember this one time when I was selling magazines, some pi$$ed off ol' guy came at me with some Dynamite and chased me clear down the block...."

Over the 40+ years I've been going to folks houses... never uninvited... we always make an appointment, on several occasions I've been treated (edit: Greeted) by an armed person... did not faze me. Oh I did run by a house to do some repair on the top of the chimney once, the owners were at work and I did not realize their daughter had come home from college. I was up on the roof and she came out with a rifle wanted to know what the heck I was doing on the roof.

Dr. Buckley, who has now passed, was usually wearing a Ruger G100.
I also remember the 'Glock Girl', at least that's what I called her.

Years ago I was headed to a SASS match about fifty miles from home. I had the week before gotten into a head on collision with my truck. The only way for me to get to the match was on my BMW R80 so off I go. I had a rifle, a shotgun , ammo a cowboy hat etc. My saddle bags were full so I tucked the two cased long guns next to my right leg and bungeed them to the bike. There was no room for my revolvers and belt so I strapped them on and went down the road. I received some very strange looks as I passed people on the interstate and turned a few heads as I drove theough the state capital on my way to the match. Two vaquero’s , full cowboy clothing and a black full face helmet. Open carry still works in Vermont !

1975...my wife and I moved to the edge of a medium sized California town in the Bay Area. Not being comfy in the city and noticing people watching me a lot of the time I decided to carry a large revolver so outside my front door I put it inside my coat facing the street. I took a long time to make friends but when we did they said they were scairt of me because of that....not cut out for city life so that lasted only a year....

My Mom was a farmers wife and was quite religious and studied her Bible regularly. I remember one day in the middle of the week a young person knocked on the door and wanted to visit about religion. I can't remember for sure which sect is was but Mom invited him in and they started to discuss it. Each time that he made a point Mom would quote scripture from her Bible that challenged it. Finally he became frustrated and told Mom that he would bring another person next time and he could answer all of her questions. Then sure enough about a week later the young man and a backup knocked on the door to discuss it further. My Mom just politely said "sorry, it's a busy day for me and I can't discuss it today". She quickly shut the door and they never came back to my knowledge.

One day there was a frantic knocking on my front door and when I answered to see who it was it was a cute young thing about 14 or 15 years old. She's almost completely hysterical and asks if she could phone her mom. Well I didn't let her in and thankfully my phone was cordless so I stood by the door while she called her mom I waited with her by the door and kind of got her calmed down. While waiting for mom, this primer grey van kept circling the block and she tells me they're the ones that tried to grab her. When they turned the corner I told her to watch out but I'll be right back. The next time they came around they got a good look at the 1911 stuck in my waistband with my hand right next to it. Tey split and we never saw them again. When mommy finally showed up, she wasn't too happy about being called out from work to get her daughter. She even chewed me out for interfering. I'm afraid I blew my stack and I'll bet that woman had never experience an asschewing like I gave her. She told me she was going to call the cops and I said go ahead, here use my phone. I then told her you call them and report what happened or I will.
No idea how all this ended. I never saw that girl or her mother ever again. This was quite a few years back. Probably about 15 years or more. My hood is usually pretty quite but every once in a great while all hell of some kind will breal loose. Come to think of it, we're way overdue.

People who cold approach anybody's home to try & sell something,, (religion or whatever,) and get greeted by ANY armed or similar type usually never return.
Once upon a time I had a mouse with a trap clamped to its leg in the suspended ceiling of the basement room. I'm on the step ladder, my wife is on the other side of the step ladder with a flashlight, I'm drawing a bead between the two red dots and the doorbell rings. My wife hops down from the ladder, heads upstairs to answer the door. I am left in limbo. Standing there for 5-10 minutes, she hasn't come back to finish the execution, I am frustrated. I climb down from the ladder, pellet rifle in hand, stomp up the stairs, round the corner and say "what the Hell is going on here!" The Bible salesman makes three bounds to the driveway 50 or so feet into the driveway hops onto his scooter and barrels out of the driveway. In 40 years or so, we haven't had another Bible salesman at our front door.
