Quick question guys. I have a Super Redhawk in 7.5" and really dont like the heft and bulk. A fellow is wanting to trade me for his 5.5" regular redhawk. Is this a pretty fair trade? Thanks in advance

I'm not a big fan of the Super Redhawks and would likely make that trade.

What calibers are each? Is the 5.5" Redhawk stainless or blued?

Would depend though on how much I had "invested" in the Super. I know my 5.5 inch .41 Mag is NOT a gun I'd trade or sell.

They are both Stainless, I bought the Super for 479 new some years ago. Its just big and bulky! It shoots like a rifle but its like packing one too,

If you use the Super Redhawk for hunting, I'd stick with the one you have...If not for hunting, I'd go with the regular Redhawk.

Sounds like you'll both get something that you want. That's usually a sign of a good trade.

Best Regards,

I'd trade. If I ever decided I wanted to go back to a SRH in the longer barrel, it's not at all hard to find one, new or used. RH, not so much.

I have 4'' and 5-1/2" and 7-1/2" lengths and I much prefer the 5-1/2" Redhawk. To me, it is the best length when balance and muzzle blast and recoil and carry ability are considered as a total.

You won't lose enough velocity due to the 2" difference to make any difference in the field. Sight radius is certainly adequate on the 5-1/2 and while you may experience a little more recoil with the shorter barrel, it is not enough to matter. 8)

The 5 1/2" RH is about the best balance of packability and accuracy in the RH package. I have one and you couldn't get me to give it up...no way...no how.

That being said, I think the 7 1/2" SRH will probably be a more accurate revolver from a shooters perspective.

If you like the RH, I say go for it. Personally I think the RH is one of the best looking DA revolvers out there.

I agree with 5 and 98, the 5.5 Redhawk is the best balanced large frame revolver in the business. Bought my 5.5" .41 Mag new in 1984 and you'd have to kill me to get it.
Yea, I'd make that trade any time.

I'd go for the trade. In my eyes the 5-1/2" Redhawk .44 is just the right size. Don't much care for the Super Redhawk.

5 1/2" Redhawks are usually harder to find when you want one and usually go for 600+ and SRH's are plentiful and sometimes (not always) cheaper. Both are great guns.....love the looks and combination of packability and shootability of the 5 1/2" that I own.

I would make that trade. I sold a 4 1/2 and wish I had a 5 1/2. They balance best of the redhawk family in my opinion.

IMHO the SuperRedhawk is the most unattractive DA revolver Ruger ever made. After the beauty of the Six's, GP's, SP's and Redhawks it's like the wheels fell off the cosmetic design department when they got to the SRH.
Sorry if I offended any SRH owners.

Sounds like my thoughts of trading are favored here. I like the sleeker more sexy lines of the regular redhawk. I have set up a time to meet with the owner and make the transaction. Thanks for all your help here. The only thing that could be better is if it were older. 1995 vintage.

I agree with the ugly part, but since I bought it to shoot and not to sleep with, it is irrelevant. 8)

Form follows function.
Pretty.....no
Accurate.....oh yeah!

Turns out its a 1985 production. Very smooth

The regular Redhawks look better to me than the "Super Redhawk" with the added frame material for the scope platform. If you want a scoped weapon, buy a rifle....

To my eye it's the missing barrel rib that just makes the gun "look" out of balance. You have that monster frame and then the barrel looks like a pencil sticking out of it.
I'm a Ruger guy but when I wanted a monster bore revolver they lost my $ and I bought my first S&W ever, my 460V.
Sorry Ruger

No offense taken here either despite my being a SRH owner too. And I like how 5 worded it.

Also when one is looking down the barrel of a SRH acquiring a sight picture, it does not look that much different... ;)

congrats on the RH...it's a beee-ute!

no offence at all, that's the great thing about the world of firearms...... there is something for everyone. i like the looks of it but each to their own......

sure, like them giant fat ones ya used to be able to get at disneyland back in the day....... :D

I like both. If the 5 1/2" is what you wanted than you made a good trade. I do think the shorter barrels balance better and some times the 7 1/2" can be a bit muzzle heavy but like all the Redhawks. Now braek it in right and make it yours.

I think the SRH starts looking better when the barrel has been cut back to about 5-1/2"

I am seriously considering that for my 7-1/2" 480 SRH......we will see.

Yea, and maybe add a large vented rib like the old PPC builders used to do. :D
