Redhawk checkered grips

When the Redhawk was introduced in 1980, I believe they were advertised with checkered grips but ...... only smooth grips hit the market.

Has anybody seen any of these checkered grips in person or better yet ...... own a pair?

They were pictured on the brochure seen in the background here:



If a guy had an extra set of the smooth grips, which of the grip makers who post here might be able to add checkering?

I'm thinking, from a faded memory that I've seen a set of checkered grips on a Redhawk. Now I'm going to have to see if I can find a set or whatever.

I've NEVER seen any checkered factory Redhawk grips ,and my bet is the gun on the brochure is an 'artwork' (drawing) Jim Triggs did a LOT of them and would put the features of other models in the picture, and the grips on the brochure are that of the Security Six, diamond shape checkering, and YES, ANY person (guy or gal) that can checker, can replicate or do ANY pattern that YOU wanted ................. :wink:

That same brochure also has the Redhawk with a front sight that goes all the way to end of the barrel, so, it may very well be a drawing.

Altamont makes nice checkered grips for the Redhawk.

If one were to actually shoot their 44 Redhawk with checkered stocks abrasion might occur.

Holy cow, you're right. And for $38.00 ..... they seem pretty reasonable. Doubt I could buy an extra set of factory wood and send it to someone for checkering and have less than $40.00 in it.

that's right, and aside from maybe some sort of any "exotic" wood, there are some grip makers ( companies) selling some nice grips and cheaper than they were just a few years ago, I KNOW the 'Lett' Ruger grips were getting pretty pricy, look at the 'white' (faux ivory) grips, the last 'Lett pricing' out of Ruger was $98 retail and they can be found a little over half that price today for the "new" Vaquero and SA grips, white with the black eagle medallion, see them at the gun shows all the time.............

I have a set of those Altamont grips on my Redhawk. They fit real nice. The set I have came with a finish that reminded me of shellac. It flaked off and wasn't durable at all. I stripped the finish off and applied some Tung oil. Looks better and wears better.
