Hey all. Know it's been a while. Let's just say I haven't been all that great and leave it at that, please, at least for now. Working on getting better. I have been popping in and reading posts when I'm able, just not logging in or responding.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a new revolver. At first I found a Smithy I really like(d), a 629 Deluxe, .44Mag. Still like the gun, but with the cost of .44 ammo, even Special, I'm not sure I can feed it as often as I'd like. So, started looking at .357 models, which are way more economical to shoot. Went out looking at like 6 different shops, a couple gun shows, too, just to see what was out there, so I could actually pick up and hold some. Found a Smithy 686, .357 Plus and Deluxe, 7 rounder, that I kinda liked, but didn't pull the trigger on it (yet), so to speak. Then I started looking around the Internet and came across the Ruger Redhawk, chambered in .357, 8 rounder, 5.5" barrel. I really like this gun A LOT, but......

I started looking around for accessories, namely grips, and both Smithy's seem to have a lot of grip options out there, but the Redhawk just doesn't. I've never owned a gun, yet, where the factory grips fit my hand correctly. I found some ok decent Hogues for the Redhawk, finger type, wood, which is what I want, but really nothing else. It seems the Redhawk comes with Altamont¿ grips from the factory, and I already know they'll be way too narrow for me. I've scoured the Net and really can't find anything other than the Hogues for the Redhawk. There are tons of grips out there for the GP100's and Super Redhawks, just not the Redhawks.

Am I missing something? Are there any other manufacturers of grips for the Redhawk I'm not seeing? I'd like to buy this Redhawk, but need to know I have some options to fit it correctly. I suppose I could always take it to a gunsmith somewhere and get something made for it, but that can be big bucks.

Thanks for any info anyone can provide. I'm glad to be back.

I know the Hogues don't fit. There are some pachmayrs out there that do- there are two kinds and the one with finger grooves is never in stock anywhere. The regular presentation model can be found occasionally, I've seen them on eBay. Other than that I don't really know except maybe some customs.

My 45 Colt Redhawk sports Hogue wooden with the 3 grooves. They fit my hand and I bought them new off Amazon and they something like $50, this was several years ago. Grips are personal you either like one or you don't. Me, I choose by fit. I've handled customers guns with some ungodly stick or the feel of a porcupine.

Hogues don't fit at all even if they're made for the Redhawk? They seem to get good review. Are they fittable with a little filing? Yeah, never seen the Pachs with finger grooves. And definitely trying to stay away from presentation grips. Those never fit my hand. I need wider, chunkier grips.

I almost e-bayed a vintage set of mustang's hockeypucks for the redhawk last year, and i dont even own a redhawk. I prolly shoulda...they had the pony on them, but were not mustang-boxed.
Adit; iirc they were "rangefield" boxed

Yeah, it's just getting reinforced to me that pickins are just plain slim for the RH when it comes to grips. Even on the Ruger site itself, under RH accessories, there isn't even one set of grips listed. Thanks everyone for the input and leads.

Good luck. I saw one pair, so this rara avis does exist.

Not sure what you are doing with this gun, but .357 is a very versatile round. So that is probably a great choice.

I’m questioning why you went from a 686 to a Redhawk? There is a significant size difference.

The 686 compares directly with a GP 100.

The Redhawk is even larger than an N frame 627.

I own all of the above and are all great. The S&W definitely have more grip options.

The Redhawk with factory wood and Houge rubber Both of these are square grip frames There is also a round grip frame on some Redhawks with even fewer grip options

As you said, the RH is a larger frame. I want the larger frame. Like the 8 round capacity, too. And it's built like a tank. Ofc, the biggest reason is that a RH is a Ruger. Have always been a Ruger guy. First gun was a Ruger, a P94DC, .40 S&W, which I still have, btw. Paid like $225 for it new. Still shoot it all the time. Don't get me wrong. I like Smithy. Heck, I even respect Taurus, at least their revolvers. Never had one of their semi-autos, so can't say anything for or against them. I've had LLama, too. That was a pretty nice gun. Never had an issue with it and the finish was better than anything available today, imo. Guess I just want another Ruger this time and I'm in the market for a revolver. Seems like the RH would fit the bill.

I have 3 RedHawks, a-44 and 2- 41s. They all wear Uncle Mikes. Can't remember where I got them all but believe mostly on eBay.

I've had a similar quest for Redhawk grips. Seems like there were options a few years ago, but several makers have dropped them from their catalogs. Herrett would be a good place to check if you want custom.

Badger does list a couple for the Redhawk. I have the round butt ones for my .45. They're definitely better for me than the factory wood panels.

Eagle Grips makes, or at least used to, wood grips that are similar in shape to a S&W N frame target grip. I handled a Redhawk with them on, and even though I have fairly large hands, they seemed bulky to me. If I got a set for my Redhawk, I would be heading to the garage where my vise and woodworking tools are kept. As others have pointed out here, I use the standard wood grips that came on mine along with a grip adapter. I use BK for an N frame Smith and have had no issues.

Don't recall where, but I once saw a Redhawk with Herrett Ropers, they looked good and quite usable.

No. 8 Tyler’s. Same as fit Security/Service/Speed Six.

About 3 years ago I contacted Herret's to see if they would make me a set of there oversized, "competition" grips. Not listed online as being available. The lady was very nice and said all I had to do was provide the hand outlines and they would be glad to make me a set. Not sure if they still do that, but would be worth a call. I decided that I didn't want them after all.
