Redhawk Barrel Separation issue

After watching the video from new forum member Mobius with the redhawk barrel issue, I got to worndering if I may have a suspect pistol. Is there a specific caliber, barrel length, or serial range of these revolvers that may be suspect??? Just thought I would maybe save myself a surprise.

I was kinda curious about that myself.

Seems like this was an issue a year or two ago, having to do with the thread fit, the lube used at barrel installation, and how hard they pulled on the wrench. Haven't heard much about it lately.

A serial number range would be a good thing to know.

It was an issue I think at the turn of the century. Problem solved a long time ago. Only involved a few guns. Contender had one. People keep resurrecting the problem. I have a few Redhawks and shoot them as often as I can. I am just wondering if this could happen to me one day when I least expect it.

I'd like to have a little closer time indication than a decade, if that's OK with you. If Tyrone doesn't want to give a more detailed response, that's entirely his decision, and I'm fine with that.

Seems these would be excellent questions for Ruger. If I were concerned about a gun coming apart, that'd be my direction. Perhaps it's two seperate issues, maybe not, but surely the manufacturer would have more (reliable and timely) info than an internet forum.

Having an interest in this very issue, I called Ruger directly a year or so ago.

The young lady with whom I spoke had no idea about the past occurrences.

If someone else receives a different response, I would appreciate any information about it.

I do appreciate contender's relaxed attitude about the whole thing.

We've seen that situations like this are quite often better resolved here on our fine site than inquiring at Ruger. It seems that many of the 'phone answerers are not really up-to-date on many issues . . . not too surprising considering how many strange calls they likely get.

Contender's informative post in Gramps' link relates the situation and cause as best as we have been able to determine it to the best of my recollection. Ruger jumped on the issue and got it squared away quickly.

My curiosity is prompted by the fact that I'm sorta, kinda, halfway in the market for a short .45 Colt-chambered Redhawk, and it would be nice to have as detailed info as possible when shopping.
