Sounds like your gate spring is slipping off. Might just need to replace it. Ruger will mail you a new spring fee free,,, however you need to have the ability to exchange it. I know not your ability…

If this is one of the 5.5” Stainless Flattops, they were a screwed up, mine went back twice for cylinder situations. I have dealt with 2 miss drilled Ejector Rod Housings, very “
catchy” abound a couple of other small problems. They know of the problems, as these went thru the facility around the same time frame as the Taffin fiasco.
Bottom gun in this picture, notice the poor fitting grip frame to cylinder frame, poor fitting grips. It’s looking a whole lot different now but still working on it. Pictures to follow when completed.
Pictured here with my first run (2003) AccuSport Bisley 41magnum. (top gun)
As for Ruger time frame,,, they usually close from Christmas thru the New Year. Best thing to do is call customer service, have your Serial Number ready. Something like this would normally be 7-10 days,,, but the holidays might have that screwed up a bit.
From the Ruger Website:
Ruger Customer Service will be closed December 24-26 and again January 1 in observance of the holiday.
Regular business hours for all Customer Service departments will resume on December 29 and January 2 respectively. We will respond to emails and service repairs as quickly as possible upon reopening. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
