I am getting a 500- series Ruger Redhawk with a 7.5" barrel this week. I would like a 4" barrel. A Ruger factory employee told me over the phone they would not replace the barrel for me, though the website lists barrels for sale.

Is there a reason for this policy, or was the lady wrong? If the factory will not do the barrel replacement, where could I have it done? TIA

Ruger generally will not replace parts that make the firearm different than it first left the factory. Their parts are to replace your 7.5in barrel with another 7.5in barrel, or a 4in barrel with a 4in barrel.

I would think that a good smith could cut-off that barrel and put a new front sight on it for less than Ruger could replace it anyway. Maybe someone that knows for sure will chime in. :D

I didn't say it was beautiful. This Ruger has been dropped. both sides of the front of the barrel are scuffed as is the cylinder & recoil shield, cylinder will not close, springs and pins are missing, front sight is bent far to the left, and no telling where the stocks got off to.

Wonder what a trip back to the factory will cost me?

I bet they would love to fix that up for you. If you send the gun to them have an FFL send it via the Post Office to save you some money on shipping and ask Ruger to give you an estimate before starting the work. I think that is what they normally do anyway. :D

Sounds like it got left on the tailgate, fell off and drove over.

A trip to Ruger will get you a estimate before the work begins.

Take detailed before and after pictures. Interesting project. Keep us posted.
