Recommended AMMO for Mark III

I've currently been using CCI Mini-Mags in my Mark III Hunter. They seem to be consistent and accurate. Any other suggestions or comments?

We always recommend CCI Mini-Mags at the shop because we never get complaints. HOWEVER, I personally have always liked Winchester Powerpoints. The Dynapoints may not really be good terminally but they generally shoot well and always go bang in a number of my rimfires.

Not a bad choice ever.

For something a bit more economical, I have found CCI Blazers consistent and accurate. In fact, they are really good shooters in most of my 22LRs. They also give a decent velocity and fairly low ES (I posted some ammo test chrono info for a MKII Standard Pistol in this forum, maybe on the next page now).

And as much as everyone will go :shock: about it, the last 2 boxes of Rem 525 Bulk Golden Bullets have shot very well in a new KMKIII4 I have been using this past week. They are surprisingly accurate, like around 1.25" or so at 30 yards with open sights. They usually wouldn't be my first choice, but this must be a good lot. Can't wait to get a red dot on it and see what it will really do!

Thats the nice thing about the Marks, they'll eat about anything you care to feed them. For match grade accuracy the cci std velocity work well, but cheap stuff works fine for target shooting and plinking. The last few boxes of rem. goldens have shot very well for me, now you see tons sitting on store shelves because of their bad rep. but they must have made changes at the factory to increase quality. About time.

I haven't bought any Rem's for a while (2 years?) because of too many misfires, roughly 1 out of 20. I have been using the Winchester Wildcat 22's in the white box for plinking with my MarkIII with no issues. I don't use my MarkIII Target for serious target work though, so I can't really comment on the accuracy of that ammo.
When I first bought the gun I did some accuracy testing with some different ammo and found the Federal Gold Medal Target ammo worked very well. Most people find that with 22 rimfires, each gun seems to have its own preference as to what ammo is most accurate.

(I've read about many subsonics not ejecting due to lack of power - though also read that it makes no difference in a pistol)

I haven't purchased one yet, but circling the idea as a first ever gun owner.
Recoil and noise are the two main things keeping me from buying anything. And it's minimum $500 to add a suppressor - way too rich for me.

You should be wearing hearing protection no matter what you shoot, so that problem isn't an issue. Recoil on a .22LR is about as light as it gets without going to an airsoft gun. You should have no problem, and recommend you find a friend that does shoot.

+1. I've shot subsonics in Ruger mark series handguns and the noise difference between it and 1250 fps loads is negligible. In a rifle you'll hear the difference but hangun barrels are so short, not so much.

Mine is most accurate with the Federal 922A, but at $10 a box of 50 I don't shoot it much. CCI standard velocity and Federal 711B work well for target use.

Mini-Mags are my main ammo of choice, but CCI standard velocity, CCI AR Tactical, Blazers and Federal 810’s have also been reliable. BTW, Federal 810’s are very similar to Mini-Mags and manufactured by CCI and packaged in a Federal container.

Regarding Blazers though, I haven’t tried Federal’s version. In fact, I was unaware ‘until recently’, that Blazers are manufactured by both companies.

In my MkIII and MkII I shoot the less expensive Rem T-bolt and Federal HV ammo - both are RN 40gr HV.

I get some leading, but they feed and eject 100%.

CCI's are great, but the price difference keeps me from using too many of them.

I run mostly cci blazers through my MKII and 10/22 and some of the federal bulk. I have tried the remington thunderbolts and never and I me never had good luck with them in any .22.

If I was going to try and shoot some bullseye comp I'd use Wolf Match, pricey but it really proves it worth with the bullseye benchrest rifle crowd at my club.

Same here. I even bought the bulk packs in bulk. Came out to like $12/box of 525. They are reasonably reliable. They go bang. For 12 bucks, what more can you expect? I'm still in the circles at 20 feet w/no optics. That's good enough for me to have fun.

...and that's really all that matters.

Bought my first Ruger-MK III 22/45 10 days ago. First day at the range had some FT feed and eject with various ammo. Indeed, CCI mini mags seemed most consistent. I didn't want to tackle disassembly for cleaning yet, so just cleaned the chamber and bolt. I purchase a speed loader for the magazines and sprayed some CLP in the bullet reservoir. Today I went to the range and fired flawless 350 rounds of all brands of ammo without 1 hiccup !!! Worth a try for some of your finicky "Ladies". 8)

Recoil from a MKIII is minimal. Small kids shoot this caliber. You get a bigger shock to your arm playing ping pong. I have shot through a brick (500+ rounds ) of 22lr in a couple of hours and would quite happily have shot my way through a second if I had it with me.

As has been said, you should never shoot or be on the range without serious hearing protection. For most calibers I wear earplugs and muffs. For 22's one or the other is enough.

Detonating a live round is an inherently violent event. There's no way around it. If that bothers you, and I don't mean this as a put down, consider archery or a high powered air gun. Both of those can be very rewarding activities and a lot of what you learn is directly applicable to shooting.

I have a small CO2 pistol and I practice with it in my house. I'm not married - that helps

And that was smart. Appears the second round of Obama madness has really begun. I bought a brick about 2 weeks ago at Wally World but yesterday they were all out and the whole ammo cabinet was getting real thin. Did a quick search online for the Federal 525s and appears all the majors like cheaperthandirt and midwayusa are out of stock too. Here we go again. :x

Went to the range today with my MKIII 22/45RP. Put the better part of a full brick of Federal 525 Bulk downrange without a single issue.
