Thinking of having a RAR re barreld to 45 Raptor or 450 Bushmaster. My question is about the magazine. I do not want a box type large capacity clip as on the Ranch rifle. I want to use the std. rotary magazine that is flush with bottom of stock. Is this possible with the type cartridge I'm looking at or is there a feeding issue.

Hello,
The Ruger American Ranch (RAR?) is currently chambered in the 450 Bushmaster, but they do not use the std rotary mag. I opened up a std short action rotary mag and the groove that the cartridge necks fit into would not accept 358 Win, so the 450's would not fit. I did not see a good way to modify it.

While the magazine used in the 450 ranch rifle does protrude below the stock about 1/2 the thickness of the trigger guard, it is by no means a hi cap magazine as it only holds 3 rounds. It is a single stack straight line feed style magazine designed specifically for the 450 round and not a rotary style. I suspect a new ranch rifle in 450 BM would be less expensive than the rebarrel project you suggest. Bob 8)

Thanks for the replies, kind of what I thought. Had to be a reason why they went with a straight line feed. That clip is probably plastic so it can't be modified to fit flush.

If it fit flush, it would only hold 2 rounds. On the plus side, it's readily removable for carrying in those areas and locations that require the magazine to be out of the gun while in a boat or vehicle or walking down a road. Also, carrying an extra magazine could come in handy. Bob!
