RAR 22 magazines & 10-22 not same

I read that in the new Guns Mag, that the RAR 22LR magazine is thinner & also in the magnum my brother found out his 77-22 magnum mags aren't exactly the same as RAR 22 magnum mags, that sucks.
I guess they think we could just paint the extra mags laying around.
I know they like to sell mags but interchangability of mags was one of the advantagesI thought.
This REALLY sucks!!

LR or Magnum, Magnum looks the same, but did not work with the one we tried today.

Concerning the LR, Guns specifically says the RAR is thinner, will try anyway.

I should not have bought the Guns article and the picture provided by Boddington, even with his picture.

As far as why the 77-22 Magnum clip did not fit the RAR 22 magnum, maybe that one clip has a problem.

I think it's harder to hold the magazine well to a certain tolerance with an injection molded stock, than with a machine cut wood stock. Many makers of synthetic aftermarket stocks have suffered the same issue. Some stocks were fine others were too tight (Butler Creek and Hogue OM stocks from personal experience).

Likewise, the magazine tolerances are not held to a rigid standard, so combine a slightly undersized mag well with a slightly over-sized magazine...

It's not too hard to use a good flat file and carefully shave the sides of the mag-well (barreled action removed of course).

The GUNS article was written by Bodinson, not Boddington. Holt's explanation for the fit discrepancy is a bit weak, IMHO.

And the photo compares the American mag to one of those clear magazines that are kicking around these days . . . very likely not to the same rigid specs as the "normal" mags.

I'd bet that Ruger intends for the American to use the "normal" mag, but as mentioned they may have a little problem with the tolerances on the "plastic" stock. I'd have no qualms about doing a little "plastic surgery" (sorry about that) on the stock.

The other thread also mentioned the clear mags as an issue... I only have two of those and they are still in the package... not sure why.

Other threads also point out that the factory ads for the .22 American state that they use "10/22- STYLE rotary magazines".

Makes me wonder why they felt it necessary to include a little potential disclaimer in the ad copy, but I'm probably just cynical.

Probably because there are more than just the BX-10 mag around these days, like the BX-25 and the various after-market mags (TI, BC, etc.)

This documents their intent. Whether individuals meet this statement remains to be seen.

Yep, provided that link last nite.
I received my American Hunter magazine, it has an article on the RAR rimfire, they also state the mags are interchangeable. It is strange that Guns & Am. Hunter in the same month have this conflicting info, but my question has been answered, I will pick up a RAR soon & I have a bunch of 10-22 clips for my autos.
