Range report flat top Blackhawk .45 Colt

Went to the range today (3/5/12) and tested my new Ruger flat top Blackhawk chambered in .45 Colt / .45 ACP which was produced for Lipsey's. Mine is stainless and has a 4 5/8" barrel. Attached are photos of two targets that I shot at 25 yards. The first target was shot using handloads made with .45 Colt brass, Wolf large pistol primers, 9.0 grains of Unique powder, and 250 grain RNFP cast lead bullets produced by GLC Bullets. I fired 25 rounds of this load and my chrono showed the average velocity was 999 fps. The second target was shot using a load made up of .45 Colt brass, Wolf large pistol primers, 9.0 grains of Unique powder, and 250 grain RNFP lead bullets cast using 50/50 alloy and a Lyman #452664 mould. I also fired 25 rounds of this load and my chrono showed the average velocity was 959 fps. These are the first two loads I've tried in this revolver, and I thought they did pretty good for an initial effort. Interestingly I also used the .45 ACP cylinder and shot some 200 grain lead SWC handload I use in my Ruger SR1911. (sorry...no photo of that target available) While that load didn't group quite as well it did shoot pretty much to the same point of aim. All in all I'm very happy with this revolver. It will join my Lipsey's flat top Blackhawk chambered in .44 Special and my other single actions.

Since I already had a full size Black Hawk convertible, I passed on the new issue. I AM just a bit envious, however.

I love my two .44 Special flattops - these (both calibers) are among the finest single actions Ruger has produced.

It looks like you are well on your way to a love affair with these fine revolvers

Nice shooting Kermit! Lipsey's 45C/ACP FT BH is indeed a Great addition to my meager Collection. I get a lot of satifaction loading for and shooting the 45C :D ......................................................

I have a pair of the Lipsey's .45colt/.45acp flattops, stainless 4 5/8", have not had the time to get them to the range.
Also got a .44spl Lipsey's 4 5/8" put away unfired for my first grandson, to go with my 5" M27(which has seen many rounds downrange). Just need to get a PPK and the boy will have a whole Skeeter set.
If these .45's shoot anything like my .357 flattops, they could become my new favorite handguns. BTW, because of the taller sight on the .45's, the don't fit my holsters for my .357's. Guess it's time to buy leather.

Both of the targets pictured were shot at 25 yards. I usually test at that range. If shooting at 15 yards I would probably use the same sight picture, and believe the bullet impact would be the same. Someone more familiar with ballistics might chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
