Range Ammo for New Mark III Competition

I'm new to Ruger with a recent Mark III Competition model. Can you guys suggest a reliable feed/fire range .22LR (that is IF I can find some!)? Thanks!

Hi Doc,

You should really like the MKIII for target and plinking. Unlike some of the similar pistols from other manufacturers, it performs flawlessly. I have rented a few range pistols and own a MKIII 22/45. I've used many different brands of ammo including some 50+ year old Federal and have never had a feed or eject problem. I've also rented a couple of Browning semi autos that would grab the ejected casing when using Federals but were fine with CCi's. Given a choice, I'd use CCI's Mini-Mags.

I have been using the fed 40g lead for a lot of years.While not match grade accurate they function fine & the groups are dang good,the automatch is what I wold pick up if I could find it :)

Mini-Mag solids get my vote. Or a good alternative is Federal # 810 Game-Shok 40gr solids…BTW, they are made by CCI.

CCI & Federal seem to work the best overall for most folks. Then, if you get serious,,step up to match grade ammo.

I've been using Blazer (CCI/Speer) without any issue and my groups with my 22/45 Lite are quite acceptable at 50'. I would agree with others here about going to match grade. ELEY comes to mind.

Thanks for the suggestions! Now to find some ammo...Since I'm new to .22, what is a reasonable price (pre-hysteria) for CCI/Federal plinking-grade rounds?

Well wally world sold 550 bulk packs for around $20 before the recent turn of events.

I bought 5000 of those Blazers for $190 (.038 ea) last summer. I still have about 2000 left but I suspect the "new normal" will be somewhere between .05 - .06 ea meaning near $300 for the same 5000. I wish I had bought 15 - 20,000 at the time. I know I'm not paying .10 ea for .22LR at this point in time. If at the end of this year I'm completely out and that is what the price still is I'll clearly have to reconsider. Who knows, that could become the "new normal" for .22LR.
