Well the sheath leather is vegetable tanned so maybe that's the cause.

If she really wants a good sword the Air Force and Naval Academy have a few.
Daughter gave hers to us.
They also have fencing. Son has his Navy Sword on display at his house.Nice knife by the way.

My Granddaughter took up fencing in college and they typically have good coaches and will teach her. It's a club sport there but they compete with places like the US Naval Academy and it turns out she is very good at it. She beat all of the midshipmen she went against and they couldn't stand it that a GIRL beat them
. She has been the fencing team captain for the past 2 years and she really enjoys it. Went to a couple of matches and she is good.

The only sword I really would want would be a true Patton sword with the ordnance markings on it but I hear they are VERY expensive.
Beautiful knives but at very near 89 I am not sure a seven year wait would be a great idea for me.

What about a pre-owned knife? Many collectors buy these but never really use them. I’ve seen many for sale at local gun shows where guys are selling off their collections and they appear to be in brand new condition, sheath and all. I once bought a knife made by a guy that used to work for Randall. I wish I kept that knife!
I ordered a #14 CDT, stag handle, the Tapered Hilt. When it finally came in I nearly got sik! Now I am a Stag Slut!! I appreciate Nice Stag. It was Fugly at best, very white. I sold it and pd lil bit of a premium but got a 1-6 w beautiful Stag. Then I was Happy 
Any pics of the one you sold and of the new? You made the right move to sell, you likely never been happy with it.

Stag is tough, everyone has a different opinion of what is good. Buck has burned me a couple times. My Randall stag purchases have always been awesome.
1 option is to order the one you want, then wait 3 months and order a second.
When they come in keep the one you like most and sell the other.
I did that with my GTR special.

Every Randall I’ve seen with stag has been superlative examples to my eye anyway, including my 25-5. Sometimes something just rubs somebody the wrong way and nothing wrong with that

Not only are they usually beautiful they index in your hand well. Comfortable grip does you no good if the blade is pointed in the wrong direction.
It must have been an off day at the Stag pile. At RMK.

Beautiful knife. But sadly the same crappy sheath design. I know Randall has had very few sheath designs over the years. But this is a quater of the way through a new century. Why can't then get an update.

You keep saying that, but I’ve used them and find them to be high quality and extremely durable. They aren’t crappy sheaths by any means.

I'm not complaining about the quality of manufacturing. But the design needs to be improved. At the very least, for such a high dollar knife several designs to choose from would be nice.

Seems like a lot of choices in a quality sheath. Far more than any other knife maker I’m aware of.
I suppose a no sheath option would be good for some people.

Models A, B & C all have a funky belt loop that allows the knife to just flop around after a bit of use. While fairly stiff when new, if you use it for very long the leathers softens. These sheaths were obviously designed for folks that buy and never use Randall knives. My fairly small Model 27 comes with a sort of abbreviated Model C sheath that is overly bulky for a knife this size. The other four sheath designs are pretty much model specific.
I contacted Randall and ask if I could get a model D or F for the Model 27 and the answer was a resounding no. They then suggested I find a custom leather maker. Which is what I'm doing.

When VietNam kicked off, Randall tried to hurry their knives into the hands of those that might need them. I graduated HS May 1965 and was in Boot Camp June 4th. Halfway through, I received a telegram read to me by my DI that said, “Randall in mail, send money!” He was concerned a family member was in jail and I might lose focus.
I explained the “truth.” I graduated in August and was handed my #1 before going off to ITR. Mine is on top, his below. He had been in the Corps and knew I would catch hell over having it shipped to me. What a card!

I was going to say not that long ago, but then I realized it has been 23 years. My kids were headed to Iraq. A lot of their issue gear was piss poor (hope that makes it past the censor but that's the only accurate description). Their issue knives were no exception. I wanted something non magnetic yet strong as all get out. Mission Knives MPKTi fit the bill. They couldn't be had for love or money. I called them directly and the owner of the company was the one who answered the phone. Long story they both had their knives before they deployed.
