Looking for your opinions on quietest .22 round out of a six in barreled revolver. Where I live I can shoot in my yard ( as long as the bullets don't leave the yard) but at only 1.25 acres I have neighbors. my ideas.

Dan is correct. A revolver,, due to the gap between the cylinder & the barrel,, ALL of it has some noise. A closed action type is the best at noise reduction. But even the lowest powered, or quietest .22 can easily leave a small piece of property like that.

Maybe look into an airgun?

I have had good luck with these in a 10/22 and 6 " S&W 617. About as loud as a 22 air rifle. They will manually feed through the Ruger and have killed several raccoons with the 617 at about 30 feet or so.

I've been shooting CCI CB's since the 70's when they were either Longs or Shorts. They are not quiet at all out of a 6" revolver, just quieter than an LR.

CCI makes them in the 29 gr Shorts and Longs CB, and 40 gr in the LR Quiets. All are rated at 710 fps. In a rifle the noise varies as well as the accuracy in different rifles. My 2 rifles are far pickier with any of these than they are with various regular LR's. There's no reason to believe a handgun would be different. I never liked the Shorts as they were louder than the Longs.

Agree 100% on revolver not as quiet as a fixed barrel & chamber, but OP asked for quietest ammo. No decibel numbers given but these specs should give a clue. As per mfrs. numbers, no barrel lengths listed.

Aguila Colibri - 20 gr. bullet at 420 FPS.

Agila Super Colibri - 20 gr. bullet at 590.

CCI CB - 29 gr. at 710

CCI Quiet - 40 gr. at 710

Many years ago, I tested CB short out of a Ruger .22 revolver and out of a Ruger .22lr semi auto. Revolver rounds were too loud for neighborhood work. The semi auto was very quite, but won't cycle the slide. Worked as a single shot pretty well. My roommate used a CB short fired out of a pocket pistol (Beretta) on a cat from about 5-6 feet. He said the bullet bounced off its head but it ran away and never came back.

Back in the '80s I used to shoot quite a few CCI CB longs out of handguns in my (downtown) attic. I never noticed any particular difference in the sound level between a 5" barreled 1911 conversion and either 6" or 4" DA revolvers. They all sounded about like loud cap pistols.

Over a decade ago, I had to wipe out a family of squirrels that had moved into my attic. I sniped them out of my back yard with CCI CB Longs in a Rem 581 (24 inch barrel) and a .22 springer air rifle. They killed equally well out to the 15 yards required. The CB Longs out of the rifle sounded like a smart handclap. The air rifle sounded like an aluminum screen door slamming. No neighbor ever asked me about either one. Pretty sure the CB longs in any handgun would have brought attention.

CB's in a 1911 with noises canceling device won't cycle the slide. You hear the lead hit but no bang. Good for doing opossum and raccoons on the back pouch getting in trash cans, 15'-20'.

Very unscientific, just my own perception of volume but did a quick test yesterday with Super Colibri.

First a 3 5/8" semi auto & a 4 5/8" Single six. The auto seemed louder. Then I compared the Single Six with a 6 1/2" single Six, & couldn't really tell the diff.
Then I thought that the auto barrel included the chamber in it's length so I actually testing a 2 7/8 barrel against the 4.6 single six, so I grabbed a 4.5" 22/45. It too seemed louder than the revolver. The revolvers not loosing at all. Hmmm.

Well, both revolvers had a barrel cylinder gap of .004" & ya. won't likely find most revolvers that tight. But that was likely the revolver doing much better than I might have thought. Knowing cyl. gap differences have a big effect on velocity, so why not noise as well?

Just goofing off. Something a retired guy gets to do a lot. accidental edumacation.

Uh, Joe, from my list above. Just guessing, but how can a cartridge with enough powder to propel a 40 grain bullet at 710fps be quieter than one propelling a 20 grain bullet at 590fps.?

Was the super Colibri tested along with the CCI?

Spend the $200.00 and buy a suppressed Ruger
I have both a suppressed Ruger 10/22 and a suppressed Ruger MK 3
They are both very quite firing regular hi power 22lr ammo.
I was shooting my suppressed pistol my friend and his girlfriend stopped by.
She wanted to shoot. I stood close to her, she had the pistol, aimed and pulled the trigger 3 times and said this thing does not fire. I told her she put 3 holes in the target. She was amazed how quite the pistol was.

Gunzo, was just passing along some test results given to me by a vendor because I asked about it. About an hour after posting it hit me that it didn't sound right to me either. Googled, and THEY said it's the quietest as well The only thing I can come up with is " How were they tested, and out of what sort of firearm, and would it make any difference?" In other words, I don't necessarily disagree with you. I also prefer Aguila ammo for .22 LR. Maybe CCI has a bigger velocity drop from a pistol and it makes a difference? Was the test pistol or rifle, and does the type make a difference? I'm not disagreeing with you, just don't understand the results.

Do you mean spend $200 for a federal approval? After that, it's a RF suppressor at approx $400. Would live to have one, but somehow $600 worth of quiet on the end of a $400 gun just doesn't fiigure up right.
