I've heard that if you leave a Ruger SA in the Ruger plastic case for a long time that the plastic will leave some type of mark on the cylinder of the gun. Has anyone had this type of problem or is this a rumor?

Had mine for years with no issue. Mine's out often to be fondled though.

I keep several Blackhawks in the original plastic cases without any problems so far. One has been in it's case for the better part of five years. I do remove them every now and then and wipe 'em down, etc.

I think the Ruger plastic case is probably the least reactive of any case you can store you gun in although I believe the plastic case can cause some rub marks if you use it for transportation. The gun will move around in the case and scuff the finish. I took the step of putting a felt liner in some of my cases that I use for transportation, and although these might be more susceptible to holding moisture, the gun rides nice and snuggy. I wipe the cased guns down often with a slightly oily rag. 8) 8)

hard is hard, and rubbing is going to cause the two surfaces to 'abrade' and yes wear the bluing off, or make the stainless steel 'shiny' if given enough time, anywhere the two come in contact.........carboard is even worse.....
old timers call it "box burn"........ :wink:

That's nice Jimbo. I had my wife make a felt "sock" for both my single six and my blackhawk. It achieves a similar affect of your setup. Yours looks a lot sharper though!

Unless there is some chemical reaction, it's the rubbing that will affect the finish. Gun socks add good protection.
