Hi,

Many of the flatter ranges I've known of use machines along the lines of the one TDF showed. Ours wasn't one of them: our fall zone was too rocky, rough and inaccessible to machines to be able to use one like that. The guys who mined our lead did it old school, shoveling the lead, sand and rocks into the bucket on the front of a small tractor, then they'd take it to a location on the range where they could process the material. Their machinery was more compact, but performed the same steps as the nice big ones.

I always wonder when I see them panning for gold (on tv) how come you never see lead shot or fishing sinkers in the pan, or in the sluice.
