There have been a few variations & changes over the decades.
The earliest Contenders,, had a push button cross pin safety in the hammer,,, before the flip lever.
The earliest Contenders hinge point was in the front,, while the later ones (and easier to open) pivot in the rear of the trigger guard area.
Early Contenders had a screwdriver operated half moon pin on the face of the hammer to switch from rimfire and centerfire.
And the early extractors have also been changed. Solid piece & split type.
The changes happened over time,, as the design issues were improved upon.

The Generation I had many changes, as previously detailed. Then there were several major changes to the G2 that they now make (I think--haven't seen a new one for sale around here for a long time....). So early and later GIs, and then G2s.
I think the early GIs look the best and the G2 works the best. Just my opinion, of course. (I know guys who wouldn't take a G2 for free).

The were at least 3 hammer changes on the Contender. Solid hammer, hammer with hole and cross slide safety, lever safety. At least 3 frame side changes, flat, cast cougar, laser cougar(plus specialty) and the short and long pivot (easy open, non easy open)
The barrel lugs were solid and split.
I have no idea. On g2’s.

contender is the authority on TCs.
I have (had) one of the initial models and two of the later versions.
LOVED them (lost them in a boating accident).
At their worst, they shoot better than any other pistol I've tried.
At their best, they are flat out amazing!
