I have a question for you front sight experts. I just bought a 30/06 No.1A 131 prefix (no warning) that was shipped in Oct. '77. It has the flat sided front sight. When did Ruger change to the current style front sight and did it happen for all Ruger rifles about the same time? It has a thin rounded red pad which is a Pachmayr. How long did these appear?

I guess it is way too new to have a Douglas barrel, but whoever made it, Wilson or Ruger, thought to put those spirally things on the inside of the barrel so it should be O.K.. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for the information! Robert

The #1RSI and M77RSI were the first to have the "fluted" sides on the front sight base, and soon after those came out Ruger made the production change to all models, so 1982 was the beginning on that.
The pebbled surface "pachmayr" buttpads were used by Ruger circa 1977/78
